CORTE MADERA, Calif., April 2 -- SL Corp., a leading provider of real-time monitoring, analytics, and visualization software, today announced the availability of Enterprise RTView for Oracle Coherence, version 4.9. This latest release of the platform adds numerous pre-built displays that provide detailed comparative statistics across all grid nodes, or across all caches in the grid, and includes preconfigured alerts for early warning of the most common problematic conditions. These features dramatically bolster visibility for those responsible for grid operations and capacity planning, and offer further benefits during data grid development and regression testing.
“Data grids are intrinsically complicated to manage,” commented Rodney Morrison, SL's vice president of products. “Without visibility into grid status and effectiveness, they can be very difficult to debug, optimize or scale properly. RTView's advanced analysis and alert features are invaluable to anyone running an Oracle Coherence grid.”
Advanced analysis features include:
The Cache Capacity trends graphs allow the user to choose trends for several different statistics: the number of objects in the cache, the total size of the cache in bytes, or the high or low units setting. Similarly, the Cache Activity trend graphs allow the user to select from several activity metrics: the Total Gets, Total Puts, Cache Hits and Cache Misses.
Each node is represented by a box with the most important real-time operational statistics such as NodeID, Location name, Server name, memory allocated, percent memory utilization, and the length of the network queue on that node. Storage node statistics include the number of caches supported on that node, the number of objects in the cache, and memory used for storage on that node.
Automatic Error Detection with Configurable Alerts
Enterprise RTView for Oracle Coherence now provides important, predefined alert conditions for the most common and critical alerts for a majority of Coherence configurations. These alerts allow early warning indicators and critical alarms for conditions such as bad communication, or a cluster that needs attention because the cache is full or free memory is too low. A top-level alert display is provided that puts alerts into the following categories:
A detailed display shows every alert and an operator can select alerts, acknowledge alerts and add comments to an alert that others can view. Administrators can set detailed alert warning and alarm thresholds, as well as the duration in seconds that a metric must remain beyond a threshold before the alert is activated.
While these advanced analysis and alert features have obvious benefits for those responsible for grid operations and capacity planning, they are also quite useful during data grid development and regression testing. For example, a developer may determine there is a problem with a cache implementation by receiving an automated alert. He or she can then drilldown on the alert to determine what type it is, and go to the analysis displays to determine the cause. The suspected cause can then be placed in the alert comments and used as reference for future regression testing.
