SAN DIEGO, March 25 -- Verari Systems, the premier developer of energy-efficient datacenter and desktop consolidation platforms utilizing independent blade-based compute and storage solutions, today announced the formation of the Verari Systems Storage Group. The new business unit targets the needs of the high-growth Web 2.0 and grid markets with high-density, power- and cooling-efficient, blade-based storage solutions.
In addition, Verari announced it is appointing Kevin McGrath, current senior vice president of engineering, to oversee and manage the Storage Group business unit. McGrath has an extensive background in storage systems hardware and software development that includes tenure at companies such as Amdahl, BMC Software, Legato Systems and EMC.
“In 2007, Verari successfully distributed blade-based storage for the Web 2.0 marketplace, shipping over 30 petabytes of storage which represents more than half of the company’s revenue,” said Mark Bowker, analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. “With over 50 petabytes of storage shipped to date, Verari has seen the vast potential opportunity that Web 2.0 requirements create and it is set to introduce a new business division focused on dense computing and storage capacity to meet these distinctive needs.”
“Verari is leveraging the success of our award-winning SB5255 DataServer for the BladeRack 2 X-Series in the Web and large enterprise space to create a new generation of storage solutions,” said David B. Wright, chairman and CEO. “Web 2.0 companies face exponential storage growth as they introduce new offerings or enter new markets to achieve competitive differentiation. Our new Storage Group is poised to provide solutions that will enable these companies to rapidly deploy scalable, datacenter and energy efficient storage products that are purpose-built for their unique market requirements.”
Organizationally, the Storage Group will include a team of dedicated engineers as well as product management and product marketing resources. The Storage Group will be closely coupled with Verari’s core engineering organization to optimize solutions for current and future BladeRack 2 X-Series platforms and FOREST container solutions. Sales and support capabilities will continue to be delivered through Verari Systems’ global organization.
“We are building this new business unit around the customers and markets that it serves, not the products it creates,” said Dan Gatti, senior vice president of marketing. “Customers expect us to deliver three things in our storage blade architecture: solutions with high density footprints in the market, energy efficiency, and acquisition costs at a price point that makes sense for high volume deployments.”
