GigaSpaces Technologies announced that The Gallup Organization has
increased the scalability and performance of its in-house Web application
framework, the "g platform," by successfully deploying GigaSpaces Space-Based
Architecture technology. Gallup's "g platform" is a clustered environment
that supports employee and customer surveys, market research,
business-to-business online reporting portals and more than 1,000 distinct,
mission-critical client projects worldwide.
Gallup is one of the largest and most well-known companies in the global
data collection and analysis industry. The company selected GigaSpaces to
optimize its "g platform," which manages the synchronization and
reconciliation of massive amounts of employee and client data. Current Gallup
clients that the "g platform" serves include Toyota, Best Buy, Ritz Carlton,
Caterpillar, Wachovia and Starbucks. Gallup's selection of GigaSpaces
represents the company's first ever use of a commercial product for its Web
application framework.
After initially investigating alternatives such as JXTA, an open source
peer-to-peer platform, and open source Jini/JavaSpaces solutions, Gallup
selected GigaSpaces because it offered an out-of-the-box solution featuring
implementation, deployment and management qualities not found elsewhere in
the public domain. GigaSpaces' transactional capabilities and support for
synchronization, partitioning, and caching provided a far richer interface
for Gallup to leverage than any other technology offering.
"Our desire to keep scaling the 'g platform' for the clients it will
serve tomorrow led us to explore GigaSpaces," said Gallup CIO Phil Ruhlman.
"We knew that developing a homegrown solution similar to GigaSpaces' offering
would prove cost prohibitive and resource intensive. GigaSpaces has saved us
significant time and cost. We have already identified four major advantages
since deploying GigaSpaces: the elimination of capped memory constraints;
improved reliability; a platform with more options for innovation than ever
before; and a very flexible messaging and job processing infrastructure."
Since deploying the GigaSpaces platform, Gallup can now point to a broad
range of measurable benefits gained, including the ability to have a number
of virtual machines working in unison without Gallup developers having to
worry about considerations such as partitioning for load balancing and
replication for failover. The GigaSpaces platform handles all of these
issues. In fact, the benefits of GigaSpaces' approach have been so widely
felt within The Gallup Organization that the company recently awarded
GigaSpaces a Gallup Partner Excellence Award. Gallup bestows the honor on
Gallup partners who provide excellence in service to Gallup associates and
clients.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with such a
well-known
and respected global leader as The Gallup Organization," said Doug
Rich, executive vice president of sales for the Americas at GigaSpaces
Technologies. "As Gallup's worldwide business
continues to expand, data gathering, analysis and reporting
capabilities are
mission-critical to its business. The GigaSpaces Space-Based
Architecture
approach delivers a high-performance, highly scalable solution that not
only
supports growth of the 'g platform,' but also increased demand for
future
online offerings."
