Platform Doubles Application Scalability in Symphony 3.1

TORONTO, May 30 -- Platform Computing today announced an update to its Symphony 3.1 software -- a high-performance, low-overhead, high-scalability solution for grid computing in the financial services market. Symphony 3.1 allows customers to build a grid scalable up to 4,000 CPUs per application while reducing latency and ensuring optimal utilization.

Symphony was tested on Windows, Linux and Solaris systems, and was validated to support in excess of 20,000 CPUs. For a single parallel application scaling up to 1,000 CPUs, Symphony achieved a utilization rate of more than 97 percent and task latency of 2.4 milliseconds. Symphony has demonstrated extremely high throughput with 2,000 concurrent clients running 100-grid enabled applications and offers real real-time application support. Symphony’s industry-leading scalability and performance ensures that a customer’s IT environment will dynamically grow alongside its business.

At the time of its initial release last February, Symphony 3.1 supported 2,000 CPUs per application. Responding to a demand for increased scalability from Platform’s customers, this update will provide greater grid performance when running complex credit risk software. No product changes were required to support the increased applications capability, which is more than double the size of competitors’ CPU capabilities. Since its initial release, independent software vendors (ISVs) and customers who have migrated to Symphony have seen immediate business returns.

"This update solidifies the leading-edge low latency and flexible computing for which Symphony is best known," said Martin Harris, senior product manager of Platform Computing. "For financial institutions, optimal utilization is paramount. By increasing our CPU capability with this new update, Platform has assured our financial services customers that their investment is well-allocated and well-protected."
