Topspin Expands InfiniBand Agreement With HP
Topspin Communications announced it has expanded its relationship with HP to
further integrate Topspin InfiniBand technology into industry-standard HP
servers. The agreement will extend Topspin's supplier relationship to HP
ProLiant servers running Linux and Windows, joining the existing offering for
HP 9000 and Integrity servers running HP-UX currently available to customers
worldwide.
Focused on the needs of the high performance commercial computing and database
clustering markets, HP ProLiant servers will support HP branded InfiniBand
options based on Topspin's industry-leading product set. Enterprise customers
will be able to deploy optimally sized clusters, and protect initial
investments with the flexibility to upgrade over time with the peace of mind
provided by HP world-class consulting and support.
InfiniBand is a server interconnect and I/O technology designed to address the
needs of computing platforms for increased performance, higher scalability,
and improved manageability. As an open industry standard, InfiniBand is
capable of expanding mainstream business computing by unleashing these
capabilities.
"Cluster aware high performance applications and databases are moving out of
the scientific computing community and into the mainstream corporate data
center," said Brian Garrett, analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. "HP
servers and Topspin technology can not only help data center managers increase
performance today, but also help establish the Grid infrastructure to make
utility computing a reality."
"Our joint customers continue to experience tangible economic and performance
benefits as a result of our strong partnerships," said Krish Ramakrishnan,
chief executive officer of Topspin. "By expanding our relationship with HP, we
are ensuring that the broadest set of solutions available to customers can
profit from the speed and reliability that Topspin InfiniBand technology adds
to HP clusters."
"HP is excited by the opportunities we see to connect our industry-leading
ProLiant servers with high performance fabric infrastructures in the
enterprise data center," said Paul Perez, vice president of Storage,
Networking & Infrastructure for Industry Standard Servers at HP. "Through our
development efforts with Topspin, we continue to expand and enhance the
capabilities of our commercial scale-out solutions."
