SUN MICROSYSTEMS, AIST TO CREATE INNOVATIVE GRID ENVIRONMENT

Sun Microsystems (Japan) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) signed an agreement to collaborate in R&D for evaluating the practicability and performance of a large-scale Grid computing environment.

With the ASIS Grid Technology Research Center having already signed with Sun a contract for the Center of Excellence program, Sun's industry-academia research program, in June, Sun and AIST, both leading players in Grid computing research, will step up their drive to exchange their technologies and products to advance their research for innovative a Grid computing environment.

Specifically, their joint efforts will involve the developing of a large-scale Grid computing environment for use by Japan, the United States and Singapore using NT Grid Engine, Sun's Grid construction software, Globus Toolkit, Sun's open-source application development software, and Ninf-G, AIST's Grid program platform.
