SUN MICROSYSTEMS, AIST TO CREATE INNOVATIVE GRID ENVIRONMENT
Sun Microsystems (Japan) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial
Science and Technology (AIST) signed an agreement to collaborate in R&D for
evaluating the practicability and performance of a large-scale Grid computing
environment.
With the ASIS Grid Technology Research Center having already signed with Sun a
contract for the Center of Excellence program, Sun's industry-academia
research program, in June, Sun and AIST, both leading players in Grid
computing research, will step up their drive to exchange their technologies
and products to advance their research for innovative a Grid computing
environment.
Specifically, their joint efforts will involve the developing of a large-scale
Grid computing environment for use by Japan, the United States and Singapore
using NT Grid Engine, Sun's Grid construction software, Globus Toolkit, Sun's
open-source application development software, and Ninf-G, AIST's Grid program
platform.
