Computing group. Formerly with the Information Power Grid project at the
NASA Ames Research Center, Smith will start at TACC in mid-January.
- GRID LINKS CANCER RESEARCHERS AT HARVARD, MIT
- IBM and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a teaching hospital of
Harvard Medical School, announced that they are working together to study
how the development of a Grid-based, distributed computing infrastructure
can facilitate improved collaboration and information sharing among cancer
researchers.
- GRID TO OFFER MORE COMPUTING FOR BIOMEDICINE IN TEXAS
- Texas biomedical researchers will soon be able to use the best computing
resources in Texas, according to an agreement signed between the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (UT Southwestern) and the
Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas (UT).
Systems/Enterprise
- GERMAN BANK SELECTS PLATFORM TO ACCEL EQUITY DERIVATIVES TRADING
- Sal. Oppenheim will use Platform's Platform Symphony to speed up complex,
compute-intensive scenario-based models used for pricing and risk

to maintain its competitive edge in the equity derivatives trading market.
- SUN, SONIC DEMO OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE W/ SonicMQ ON SOLARIS 10
- As the foundation for Sonic's industry- leading enterprise service bus,
Sonic ESB, the tests indicate performance improvements that will help make
service-oriented architecture (SOA) a viable option for applications where
performance is critical, such as in financial services.
- CoCreate USES SYSTINET TO OPEN CAD TO THE ENTERPRISE
- As a result, organizations can easily access and share CAD design data
across the entire enterprise using standards-based Web services and can
incorporate Model Manager into a service-oriented architecture.
Applications
- COMPUWARE ENABLES EVOLUTION OF ENTERPRISE APPS TO SOAs
- Compuware Corp announced the latest releases in its XPEDITER product
line. These new releases help organizations better analyze, understand, debug
and test their mainframe assets.
- THE MathWorks RELEASES BIOINFORMATICS TOOLBOX 2.0
- With the latest release of its Bioinformatics Toolbox, The MathWorks
brings greater power and versatility to the biotechnology and
pharmaceutical industries, providing more advanced technology capabilities for drug
discovery research, genetic engineering, and other genomics and proteomics
projects.
- MEIOSYS RELOCATES MULTI-TIER APPS W/O INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE
- Meiosys used a pre-release version of its MetaCluster UC 3.0, which will
ship at the end of December, to demonstrate the relocation of RUBiS, an
auction site application similar to eBay.com, from one machine to another,
under load, while preserving the state and open connections of the RUBiS
application.
- OPTORSIM 2.0 RELEASED
- With OptorSim, a user can set up a Grid topology and list of jobs to run,
choose a job scheduler and replica optimization strategy and watch the
performance of the chosen algorithms in real time with the graphical user
interface, or with the summary of results which is output at the end of
the simulation.
Breaking News
"I've also had hands-on experience with an operational Grid
system, the IPG at NASA, so I've done some real-world
