CANARIE Chooses Looking Glass For Dark Fiber Solution
Looking Glass Networks Inc, a facilities-based provider of metropolitan data
transport services, announced that CANARIE, Canada's advanced Internet
organization, a not-for-profit corporation that facilitates the development
and use of next-generation research networks and the applications and services
that run on them, selected Looking Glass to provide dark fiber services to
support networks which are central to international innovations in research
and education.
"Looking Glass is delighted to be able to offer our services for research and
education initiatives similar to those supported by international
organizations like CANARIE," said Lori McCaffrey, vice president of sales for
Looking Glass Networks. "By offering connectivity to CANARIE's key locations
in Chicago, our metro network proved to be in the right locations for them
allowing us to provide a flexible and affordable dark fiber solution."
CANARIE purchased Looking Glass' DarkGLASS services in Chicago to extend its
connection to StarLight locations in furtherance of its commitment to research
and education in Canada and around the world. StarLight is an advanced optical
infrastructure and proving ground for network services optimized for
high-performance applications. Looking Glass was able to deliver its dark
fiber services to CANARIE on time and within their budget. The company's dark
fiber gives CANARIE and others like them the flexibility to manage their own
networks with the confidence that the underlying fiber infrastructure is being
expertly provisioned and maintained.
"CANARIE, as one of the first members of StarLight, chose Looking Glass to
play an integral role in our ability to expand our participation and
commitment to being an enabler and innovator of research, education and the
promotion of the Internet," said Bill St. Arnaud, senior director of advanced
networks at CANARIE. "Looking Glass' dark fiber service met our connectivity
objectives and went beyond our expectations for fast delivery -- they were at
the right place, at the right time and at the right price."
