Systems/Enterprise:
NEW WHITEPAPER HIGHLIGHTS CRITICAL ROLE OF GOVERNANCE IN SOAs
LogicLibrary, a provider of software asset management tools, announced the
availability of a new white paper by the noted IT market intelligence firm
ZapThink LLC. The report, titled "SOA Governance: IT Governance in the Context
of Service Orientation," is an in-depth examination of how service-oriented
architecture (SOA) governance can provide the visibility and control necessary
for information technology (IT) governance, while also increasing the business
agility organizations require.
Today's enterprises face growing regulatory pressures with legislation such as
the Sarbanes Oxley Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, HIPAA, the Patriot Act and
others. As a result, corporate and IT governance are becoming progressively
more pervasive as a means for providing the compliance infrastructure
necessary to satisfy this list of complex regulations. The critical link
between corporate and IT governance is a service-oriented architecture. Proper
SOA governance will be the primary way that companies can establish principles
for the control of their organizations.
"In today's business climate of cutthroat competition, complex regulations and
constant change, corporate governance has risen to the top of many executive's
minds, and IT governance, in particular, is a critical concern," said Jason
Bloomberg, senior analyst at ZapThink LLC and author of the report.
"Fortunately, the emergence of SOA promises to provide a flexible structure
for IT governance. Enterprise implementations of SOA can thus enable agile IT
infrastructures that also provide the necessary visibility and control for an
effective IT governance strategy."
SOAs have become mainstream in the past year due to their ability to provide
business agility and flexibility through integration, productivity and reuse.
With SOA enablement on the rise, IT groups are beginning to address SOA
governance as a means of controlling what and how services located within an
SOA are deployed. Guiding principles of SOA as outlined in this report include
reuse, compliance to standards, identification and categorization of services,
service provisioning and delivery, and service monitoring and tracking.
LogicLibrary's flagship product Logidex serves as an SOA governance platform.
The industry's premier software development asset (SDA) management solution,
Logidex maps relationships among SDAs and the business processes they support,
giving enterprises the ability to manage and reuse assets throughout the
complete application lifecycle. This gives organizations the capability to
properly manage assets in SOA initiatives, while at the same time reducing
costs, streamlining projects and improving productivity.
"The earlier a company begins to implement SOA governance, the sooner they
will be able to apply the agility and flexibility of SOA to their broader IT
needs," states Alan Himler, vice president of marketing and product management
at LogicLibrary. "Metadata are essential to the visibility needed for IT
governance, and LogicLibrary provides the industry's leading asset management
tool and metadata repository. With its unrivaled ability to manage and control
the design and development of software services, Logidex is ideally suited for
long-term use as an enterprise's SOA governance platform."
