Intransa Demos Multi-Vendor Modular IP SAN Architecture

Intransa and Rasilient announced interoperability results that demonstrate the industry's first multi-vendor, scalable IP SAN allowing for a true paradigm shift in IP SAN implementation and its adoption. The pioneering combination of Intransa's IP SAN IntraStor modular architecture that uses the SNIA shared storage mode, coupled with Rasilient's RASTOR 4000 storage platform provide a powerful combination to grow and manage the next-generation of native IP SANs for small business, mid-tier and enterprise-class customers.

"This is a perfect example of the openness of IP based storage, and one of the first examples of building a flexible storage Grid," said Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst of Enterprise Strategy Group. "Intransa provides the brains in this federated storage example where customers can chose inexpensive arrays while reaping very high-end benefits."

Comprehensive interoperability testing of Intransa's high performance, IP SAN storage controller cluster, with Rasilient's iSCSI disk arrays, iSCSI interfaces. The IP SAN storage controllers and the iSCSI disk arrays provide the foundational building blocks for companies to centralize management, of distributed storage and allow for seamless growth of storage resources without requiring a major overhaul to their existing IT infrastructure. This next- generation IP SAN approach provides a cost effective alternative to expensive Fibre Channel components due to its ability to leverage existing Ethernet economics, as well as a fully compatible and complementary, cost effective secondary storage for enterprise tiered storage architectures.

"Intransa's modular storage controllers in concert with Rasilient's iSCSI arrays pave the way for customers to seamlessly build and manage their IP SAN network," said Ernesto China, vice president of marketing and business development at Rasilient. "By deploying a state-of-the-art native IP SAN, enterprises will be able to cost-effectively evolve their storage environments into a true enterprise-class IP SAN as their business requirements dictate."

Intransa leads the IP SAN market by delivering the industry's most comprehensive suite of IP SAN solutions to meet the needs of small, mid-tier, and enterprise-class customers alike. The Intransa IP storage offering is based on the company's IP SAN IntraStor architecture, a three tiered architecture that allows for independent capacity and performance scaling. This offers IT administrators the flexibility to easily scale performance and capacity as needed. To seamlessly scale performance and capacity, simply plug in an additional Intransa storage controller, or disk enclosure (DE) into the network, and volumes are automatically redistributed with additional capacity immediately available for all hosts in the IP SAN network.

"Intransa's modular storage controller architecture is a perfect complement to Rasilient's iSCSI arrays and this marks a significant industry milestone in the evolution of deploying and scaling next-generation IP SANs," said Ravi Pendekanti, vice president of global marketing and services at Intransa. "Intransa is proud of driving the paradigm shift along with its partners in the storage market, where the entire value proposition is captured in the advanced software packages which provide state-of-the-art virtualization and management capabilities that can be seamlessly integrated over a complete set of industry standard platforms."
