NTT Com, ISC Join Hands To Provide F-Root Server In Osaka
NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced that it will work together with
Internet Systems Consortium (ISC), a United States-based nonprofit public
benefit corporation, to jointly install a new F-root nameserver in Osaka.
Operations began on Oct. 12.
The collaboration is being realized by taking advantage of NTT Com's secure,
highly advanced data centers and networks in order to provide secure and
reliable domain name systems (DNS). ISC's strategy is to equip its F-root
servers with the IP Anycast technology, whose routing topology directs data to
the nearest or best destination.
This move occurs in the midst of efforts by ISC to secure a reliable DNS
infrastructure in order to reduce the vulnerability of the Internet Root
nameserver system to malicious attacks such as those that occurred around the
world in October 2002. ISC has chosen Japan to locate the new server due to
its location as an economic center in Asia, as well as its high penetration
rate of broadband.
Joao Damas, F-root program manager, stated, "ISC is extremely happy to be
working with NTT Com to enhance the resilience and service of the global DNS.
Installation in Japan means a great step forward for ISC in its level of
service for the F-root nameserver, providing direct and close service to one
of the world's main economies."
Hidetoshi Saigo, general manager of Broadband IP Services Division, stated,
"NTT Com is very pleased to make a contribution to enhancing Internet
infrastructure through our data center. The F-root name server in Osaka can
also help to reduce the over-concentration of infrastructure in Tokyo."
In addition to NTT Com customers, the F-root nameservers are also being made
available to internet exchange (IX) services including JPNAP Osaka, which is
operated by Internet Multifeed, and NSPIXP-3, which is operated by the WIDE
project.
The F-root nameserver is one of the 13 total root server types operated by
different organizations throughout the world. Both companies will continue to
work together to expand the nameservers using NTT Com's global IP network and
data centers.
