University Of Washington Chooses Looking Glass Dark Fiber
Looking Glass Networks Inc, a facilities-based provider of metropolitan data
transport services, announced that the University of Washington, the oldest
state-supported institution of higher education on the Pacific coast, selected
Looking Glass dark fiber to support research and education in conjunction with
Pacific Wave, Pacific Northwest Gigapop, and other leading-edge high-bandwidth
networking initiatives.
"Looking Glass is proud to be a part of the University of Washington's
visionary network supporting, among other programs, international academic
peering exchange facilities," said Nick Lenoci, vice president sales and
marketing at Looking Glass Networks. "Having built our own flexible Seattle
metro network allowed us to fast track this project for the customer and meet
their tight deadline by delivering dark fiber within two weeks of receiving
their order."
The University of Washington is utilizing Looking Glass' DarkGLASS services to
extend its connection from certain submarine cable landing points in Oregon
and California to Seattle. This solution supports multiple applications for
global, regional, and local research and education programs. Looking Glass'
Seattle network provided the capacity and connectivity to the key carrier and
data aggregation locations the University of Washington required.
"The University of Washington prides itself on the advancement and
dissemination of knowledge. Looking Glass' dark fiber services helped us to
further our mission in a timely and cost effective manner," said Scott Mah,
assistant vice president of computing and communications. "We look forward to
continuing our relationship with Looking Glass and accessing the company's
high bandwidth resources when and where we need them."
