RLX, Voltaire Deliver 10 Gb/s InfiniBand Solution For Grids
RLX Technologies, a provider of blade server and modular computing
technologies, and Voltaire announced that the companies are collaborating to
deliver the industry's first 10 Gb per second (4X) InfiniBand integrated
switch for blade servers. The new solution is the first to offer customers a
fully switched InfiniBand solution in a single or multiple blade chassis. For
customers looking to deploy high performance clusters that require a low
latency interconnect and integrated I/O for server, network and storage
provisioning, this is a unique, industry-first solution.
Under the terms of the agreement, Voltaire is providing RLX with custom
InfiniBand host channel adapters, switches and software for integration with
RLX's award-winning Server Blade and Rack Module platforms. The integration of
InfiniBand switching within the RLX blades chassis gives customers all of the
benefits of a high performance InfiniBand cluster in a low-cost, pre-assembled
solution. RLX will also resell Voltaire's highly acclaimed ISR 9288 and ISR
9024 InfiniBand switch routers for customers who wish to interconnect multiple
blade chassis for larger clusters or connect to storage. The Voltaire ISR 9288
is the industry's largest, most scalable InfiniBand switch with integrated
storage and IP connectivity, making it the ideal interconnect for high
performance computing clusters and enterprise Grids.
"Our partnership with Voltaire further establishes RLX's commitment to
InfiniBand technology and allows us to continue providing industry-leading
blade server solutions as well as the most manageable Linux clusters," said
Tejas Vakil, vice president of marketing at RLX Technologies. "Because our
joint solution will be fully integrated and quickly scaleable to 30 Gb per
second, the RLX design can take full advantage of the performance of
InfiniBand technology. Furthermore, because manageability is built-in to the
system and accessible remotely, our customers will not only get optimum
InfiniBand performance on RLX blades or clusters, the solution will also be
the most manageable on the market."
"We are delighted to have been selected by RLX to be the exclusive provider of
InfiniBand technology for their server blade and rack module solutions," said
Ronnie Kenneth, CEO and chairman of Voltaire. "By integrating InfiniBand, the
highest performing interconnect available, with industry-leading blade
technology, we can now provide the solution for which HPC and enterprise
customers continually ask: a cluster that improves performance and scalability
while reducing costs and complexity."
The thorough integration work completed by RLX and Voltaire has resulted in
the industry's most dense, highly available and easy-to-manage InfiniBand
cluster solution. Featuring 4X InfiniBand ports in the switch blade, the
solution is a formidable building block for small-to-medium-size clusters in
the enterprise. No external cabling is required, thereby reducing the time,
cost and complexity often associated with assembling clusters. The solution
also enables network booting for diskless InfinBand clusters so customers can
easily move to a diskless environment to reduce deployment time and cluster
operating expenses. Moreover, the solution's advanced cluster management
capabilities allow users to dynamically deploy manage and provision multiple
servers remotely through a Web-based interface.
