Layer 7 Intros First Identity Bridging Solution For Web Services
Layer 7 Technologies announced the availability of SecureSpan Bridge, the
first cross-domain integration offering for Web services. SecureSpan Bridge
provides enterprises with the first solution to dynamically connect client
application with Web services across identity, security and middleware
domains. SecureSpan Bridge interoperates with Layer 7's current XML firewall
and policy manager offering, SecureSpan Gateway and SecureSpan Manager, to
deliver an end-to-end security and connectivity solution for Web services.
"Connecting Web services across identity, security and middleware domains is
an unaddressed problem," said Anne Thomas Manes, vice president and research
director of application platform strategies for the Burton Group. "Before an
XML or SOAP message can be passed between a Web service and its requesting
application, the two systems need to agree on identity definitions, security
requirements, and communication formats. Today, this agreement must be
programmed, out-of-band, on a service by service basis."
"As more information is made available to citizens and employees over the
Internet, ensuring the right users are accessing the right information is
critical," said Robert McDonald, chief architect at the BC attorney general's
office. "Layer 7 provides a secure and flexible solution to help bridge our
application silos quickly and cost effectively."
With SecureSpan Bridge identity, policy and communication definitions can be
dynamically coordinated across departments and partners without programming.
For organizations looking to streamline integrations across disparate identity
silos, SecureSpan Bridge provides a fast and flexible solution that requires
minimal configuration.
"Web services technology is an ideal, standards-based method to connect
applications across the extended enterprise," said Toufic Boubez, chief
technology officer of Layer 7. "With the SecureSpan Bridge, users of XML, Web
Services and SOA now for the first time have a simple tool to make
cross-domain integration not only possible, but also practical."
