DataSynapse GRID-ENABLES MAINFRAME REPORTING, MS EXCEL APPS

Accelerating the global adoption of its Grid computing solutions, DataSynapse Inc continues to gain momentum as the fastest-growing provider of Grid computing solutions. Companies across industries are deploying DataSynapse's GridServer to scale and optimize high-volume mainframe reporting processes and Microsoft Excel applications. From document and report generation to complex spreadsheets, GridServer enables organizations to run business-critical transactions on a Grid environment, improving application processing speed, scalability and resource utilization. The resulting levels of application performance and operational efficiency reduce transaction costs and drive faster, more accurate business decisions.

A growing area of focus, leading organizations are looking to Grid computing to optimize the performance of their core document production applications -- the systems responsible for customized business communications such as account balances, service reports, policy forms, bills and statements in both print and electronic format. Enterprises are facing a universal demand for faster document production with increasingly strict reporting requirements and a high-volume of process-intensive print requests.

In partnership with Sefas Innovation, a provider of enterprise software solutions for automated document production, DataSynapse enables customers to speed application processing, saving them time and money with each transaction. Running Sefas' document factory solutions on GridServer, a major human resources outsourcing firm found that the Grid-enabled application performed more than 50 times faster on the Grid than it did on the mainframe alone. For the larger runs, this transformed turnaround times from weeks into hours without compromising any of the processing features that made the Sefas product so compelling.

"The combination of Sefas' Document Collaboration Suite and DataSynapse's GridServer links applications to real-time infrastructure operations as needed, supporting a true service-oriented computing model," said Randy Hardy, vice president of business development for Sefas. "Driving cost savings and operational efficiencies with speed and reliability, the solution enables our clients to better serve their customers -- the ROI is instantaneous."

DataSynapse customers have also achieved measurable results by Grid-enabling Microsoft Excel applications with GridServer. A pervasive tool for financial analysis modeling and simulations, Excel is one of the most widely deployed software programs on Wall Street. The benefits of optimizing Excel performance with GridServer are significant from a cost-savings and competitive perspective, resulting from:

  • Improved Time-to-Results: GridServer runs the application across a Grid of CPUs, improving performance by 100 times.
  • Ease of Integration: GridServer integrates the worksheet with the service adaptor, eliminating the need to write new code for each application that uses the Grid.
  • Rules-Based Prioritization: GridServer uses a sophisticated, priority-based scheduler to facilitate flexible resource allocation policies.
  • Increased Utilization: Resources are dynamically allocated as needed and if work is submitted by any application on the Grid, no resource will be idle.

In the credit derivatives group of a major US bank, GridServer was able to reduce the runtime of a 10-hour Microsoft Excel application to less than 15 minutes, helping to deliver near real-time results for Excel users.

"GridServer allows Excel applications to run on a Grid with little or no modification -- making it possible for users to run complex spreadsheets and harness the power of Excel on a Grid," said Jamie Bernardin, chief technology officer of DataSynapse. "GridServer offers a highly scalable and resilient software platform that organizations can leverage to accelerate business-critical applications and develop new offerings that help them outperform their competition."
