Emulex FC HBA Selected By NEC For Blade Server Connectivity
Emulex Corp announced that NEC Corp has integrated a customized version of
Emulex's Thor-based dual channel Fibre Channel HBA for storage networking
connectivity within the NEC Express5800 family of Blade Servers. The NEC
Express5800 family of blade servers with the integrated Emulex dual channel
connectivity solution is available from NEC beginning Oct. 29 in Japan.
"NEC's next generation of Express blade servers are designed to enable outward
scalability that is fully complimented by Emulex's flexible HBA design," said
Koji Iguchi, chief manager of NEC's client and server division. "The inherent
design and flexibility of Emulex products has made its Thor-based dual channel
HBAs an ideal connectivity solution for the newest generation of NEC
Express5800 Blade Servers."
The NEC Express5800 Blade Server series offers advanced features concentrated
onto a single board to ensure highly flexible and reliable computing
performance in environments with limited space. The NEC Express5800 series,
coupled with the Emulex HBA for high performance storage networking
connectivity, fully optimizes scalability to implement higher mounting density
than that of general-purpose rack mounted servers.
"NEC's selection of the dual channel Thor-based HBA underscores our commitment
to providing products that meet both the footprint and performance
requirements of our customers," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of
worldwide marketing for Emulex Corp. "NEC's Blade Server family offers an
ideal solution for end users seeking first-rate products for space-constrained
IT departments and we are pleased that NEC continues to rely on Emulex for
highly scalable and flexible connectivity solutions."
The Emulex Thor-based LP10000 family includes both single- and dual-channel
HBAs, in a low-profile form factor that adapts to either standard height or
blade server slots. The LP10000 product family builds upon the Emulex software
architecture, which enables the independence of an operating system's device
driver from the underlying HBA platform. This exclusive HBA architecture is
the foundation for proven reductions in the total cost of ownership of a SAN.
The Emulex HBA architecture provides a platform that is fully software
compatible with previous generations of Emulex's market leading HBAs. This
enables customers to effortlessly migrate to new Emulex HBAs, while also
allowing for simplified integration into existing storage area networks.
