Special Features
- NSF AWARDS $4M FOR OCEAN OBSERVATORIES GRID
- The infrastructure will be a prototype for the use and automation of
undersea sensor networks -- both delivery of data from sensors and the
control of sensors and networks from land -- and will assist in designing
sensor networks for conducting research in other remote and hostile
environments.
- MCNC TO PROVIDE YEAR OF FREE GRID SERVICES TO NEW BUSINESSES
- The Start-Up Grid pilot program at Centennial Campus is being designed to
provide a novel set of resources to help fledgling companies grow,
creating new companies and jobs throughout North Carolina. The program will
leverage the state's existing resources in a new, collaborative and focused effort
to spur economic development.
- SUN MICROSYSTEMS, TACC ADD SUPERCOMPUTER TO TeraGrid
- Maverick, a new UltraSPARC-based supercomputer with 3-D visualization
capability would go live on the National Science Foundation's TeraGrid to
provide compute power, storage resources and visualization to researchers,
scientists and engineers across the country.
- BUILDING BRIDGES
By Kathleen Ricker, NCSA Science Writer
- Now officially online, the NEESgrid brings together widespread earthquake
engineering research sites -- and two very different research communities.
- NSF FUNDS HANDFUL OF GRID PROJECTS AT UC-SAN DIEGO
- Scientists and engineers will use the funds to develop technologies to
connect land-based researchers to ocean sensors off the west coast of
North America; to get early earthquake warnings from remote areas via high-speed
wireless networks; to protect the Internet's Domain Name System; and to
improve the effectiveness of image-guided neurosurgery; and more.
Systems/Enterprise
- DEMANDWARE DELIVERS ADVANCED E-COMMERCE PLATFORM ON DEMAND
- The Demandware e-commerce platform leverages state-of-the-art e-commerce
software, Web services and a highly scalable Grid computing architecture
to provide functionality, flexibility and scalability through an on demand
service.
- FedEx SELECTS OPSWARE TO AUTOMATE GLOBAL DATA CENTER OPERATIONS
- FedEx will use the Opsware System to establish a consistent baseline
across their server and application infrastructure, an important
foundation for realizing speed and future utility computing initiatives.
- IBM MAXIMIZES AUTONOMIC CAPABILITIES OF BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS
- IBM introduced new Tivoli software designed to help give customers a more
complete map of Web-based transactions while identifying transaction
failures and inefficiencies. These capabilities represent a major
advancement in the development of "self-healing" autonomic computing
systems.
- ACXIOM CHOOSES JBoss TO SUPPORT GRID INFRASTRUCTURE
- JBoss Inc announced that Acxiom Corp has implemented the JBoss
Application Server within its Grid computing infrastructure to help support the
interactive, real-time processing capabilities of its customer data
management solutions.
- INSURANCE COMPANY SELECTS WEBIFY SOA APPLICATIONS
- Fireman's Fund selected Webify Solutions and IBM to improve agencies'
ease of doing business with FFIC, leverage ACORD specifications, and drive down
operational costs through straight-through processing.
Applications
- CHORDIANT GRID ENABLES BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS
- The combination of Chordiant's BPMS and Grid dramatically improves the
analytic performance (e.g. real-time offers and autonomic business process
management) by using Grid computing to consume unused computing cycles
throughout the enterprise.
- CALLIDUS SOFTWARE, ACTUATE RENEW STRATEGIC OEM AGREEMENT
- Building on a six-year track record of success, this partnership provides
Callidus customers with advanced reporting and analysis tools and a
broader set of configuration and scalability options to improve visibility into
sales performance.
- CORIO ANNOUNCES APPLICATIONS ON DEMAND 2005
- Applications on Demand 2005 is a new and improved release of Corio's
operational platform designed to reduce the cost and complexity of
enterprise systems and comply with new control objectives dictated by
Sarbanes-Oxley.
- IBM EXPANDS EFFORTS TO HELP ISVs DELIVER SOFTWARE ON DEMAND
- IBM has expanded the enablement resources available to ISVs during the
transformational phase of the program. Participants will now complete a
host of new e-Architect workshops and training sessions on new and developing
technologies, such as Grid computing and Web Services.
Breaking News
"We are well on the way to enabling cooperative, big science,
by getting the sites to work together and by developing a
standard way to access NEESgrid services across many heterogeneous
systems." -- Sridhar Gullapalli, USC Information Sciences Institute
