Atempo Delivers Time Navigator Reporter
Atempo Inc announced the release of Time Navigator Reporter, a powerful
software tool for tracking and analyzing backup and restore operations across
the enterprise.
As part of the Time Navigator data protection platform, Time Navigator
Reporter helps companies ensure that all their business-critical data is safe,
whether that data is stored across the room or across the globe. Its
comprehensive suite of reports gives administrators the insight to identify
and address problems before they cause costly interruptions or hurt
productivity. And it creates an auditable record of backup and restore
operations to demonstrate compliance with increasing audit, risk management
and regulatory requirements.
"Time Navigator Reporter helps companies conduct capacity planning and storage
provisioning for data protection, enabling them to proactively address
bottlenecks and capacity shortages," said Francois Gauthier, Atempo's chief
technology officer. "It helps IT managers direct data protection spending
where it is most needed and cut spending on underused systems. It gives
companies the information they need to deliver utility computing services, and
provides the performance tracking they need to fulfill Service Level
Agreements."
Reporting Functions
Time Navigator Reporter automatically compiles data across heterogeneous,
geographically-dispersed systems comprising multiple backup servers and
catalogs. The software's global summary reports cover backup activity, restore
activity, media usage and much more. The software lets administrators zoom in
for a closer view, reporting historical activity by library, catalog, pool,
drive and user. It identifies backup and restore failures, and tracks the
number and severity of alarms. And it can track backup times to ensure that
backup operations fit within backup windows.
Capacity Planning, Storage Provisioning And Maintenance Scheduling
The software's historical reports enable administrators to forecast usage and
perform provisioning, anticipating problems such as shortage of media and
performance bottlenecks before they damage business performance. It reports
the number of spare and full tape cartridges in a library, the number of media
mounts on a tape drive, and the percentage of busy time for a drive. And it
tracks usage by drive, helping companies ensure maintenance at proper
intervals in order to reduce drive failure.
Facilitates Service Level Agreements And Utility Computing
By tracking backup and restore success ratios and other key metrics of service
quality, Time Navigator Reporter gives companies the information they need to
design and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Reporter also makes the
Time Navigator data protection platform a more powerful tool for delivering
utility computing; it lets companies track usage of storage resources by
platform or application, allowing them to charge costs to the heaviest users
by department or application.
Flexible Data Access And Display, Easy To Install
Time Navigator Reporter is easy to use and flexible. Administrators can define
and run reports either through a Java-based graphical user interface or
remotely via a web browser. Output can be viewed in graphical or tabular form
using Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
and other analysis tools. The software can be easily and non-intrusively
installed in minutes. No agent is required for setup.
Works With Heterogeneous Systems
As part of the Time Navigator platform, Time Navigator Reporter helps
companies protect their data across a complete range of hardware platforms,
operating systems and networking technologies. The software is compatible with
Time Navigator versions 3.6, 3.7 and future versions, so customers can follow
historical data even after upgrading Time Navigator.
