Bandwiz Grid Cache Tech Helps Deliver Large Files Over WANs
Until now, large enterprises couldn't afford to use high quality video in
applications that go over their wide area networks. Nor could they send out
emails with large attachments. Bandwiz unveiled a new version of its low-cost
enterprise content delivery software that solves large file delivery problems
over wide area networks.
Based on patent-pending Grid Cache technology, Bandwiz DistributeIt 3.0 allows
enterprises to stop worrying about network congestion caused by the delivery
of large files. Enterprises can now use video and multimedia to communicate
with workers in all offices as well as partners and customers without
requiring investments in new network equipment.
"Executives get frustrated when they can't manage effectively because of the
network," according to Haim Neerman, Bandwiz CEO. "Our customers and prospects
are excited because they can install DistributeIt, then send their emails,
improve their training and put whatever content they need on their portals --
including full-screen, high quality videos -- without worrying about the
impact to the network."
DistributeIt 3.0's Grid Cache technology aggregates excess storage from file
servers and workstations into a virtual cache that is shared by users in the
same office. The software uses Topology Aware Routing to pre-position files
into Grid Caches. Users simply click on content links embedded in emails or
Web pages and are directed to the closest copy for viewing.
This approach delivers the same technical performance as high-priced,
appliance-based ECDNs (enterprise content delivery networks) at a fraction of
the cost. In addition, there are several features of DistributeIt 3.0 that
surpass appliance-based ECDNs, including:
- Bi-directional delivery.
- Delivery of content and data within an extranet setting.
- Ability to select users and groups authorized to view content from the Grid
Cache.
- Integration with email systems to re-route large e-mail attachments.
- Transparent encryption at the content entry point.
- SSO (Single Sign-On) authentication.
- User-level reporting and auditing.
DistributeIt is simple to install and operate and can be up and running in
days. In addition, no changes or configuration to the email system or browser
are required to deploy the software.
Sterne Agee Deploys DistributeIt For Video-Based Training
Wealth management provider Sterne, Agee & Leach was faced with a triple-digit
increase in network costs or a million-dollar-plus investment in an
appliance-based ECDN to support its video-based training for its network of
brokers. Instead, the company deployed Distribute 3.0 for less than 10 percent
the cost of a competing ECDN solution. And it was able to deploy DistributeIt
in less than a week using its desktop management application to set up the
Grid Caches remotely.
"We're now able to push out full-size, high quality video to our brokers. And
with the newest courses, the authors don't have to worry about the network, so
the quality of the courseware content keeps improving. Even though the videos
keep getting bigger, we don't even worry about the network because of
DistributeIt," said Larry Davis, CIO at Sterne, Agee & Leach.
"Why would anyone spend money on hardware or a network upgrade for a problem
that can be solved better, quicker and a lot cheaper with this type of
software?," he commented.
