ORACLE GRID LETS PARTNERS DELIVER SOLUTIONS ON DEMAND

Oracle unveiled a new offering that enables independent software vendor (ISV) partners to more quickly build their own on demand business and also extend to their customers the benefits of Oracle Technology On Demand such as 24-7 support and Oracle service expertise. The new offering, Oracle On Demand for ISVs, allows ISVs to remotely manage and deliver their applications leveraging the Oracle On Demand Grid as their technology infrastructure to seamlessly provide their customers with on demand solutions that are secure, scalable, cost effective and easy to manage.

Oracle On Demand for ISVs enables an ISV to offer application management and hosting services to customers of any size. The program helps ISVs build or deploy their applications on the latest Oracle technology, while Oracle manages the underlying infrastructure. Packaging Oracle expertise in database, system, network, application and security management into their industry solutions provides ISVs with new options for their customers, and competitive market advantage.

One of the early adopters of Oracle On Demand for ISVs is Infopia, a developer of e-commerce software. With more than 120 customers, Infopia provides applications that help small companies securely sell products and services in online, multi-channel marketplaces such as eBay and Amazon. Building on Oracle Technology On Demand, Infopia can scale and provision for spikes in customer activity, essential for a business that relies on a high-volume, online channel. While Oracle manages the Oracle technology platform and handles all upgrades and updates, Infopia has a remote link into its customers' environments and can manage its own applications -- providing complete, collaborative support that is transparent to Infopia's customers. Today, because Infopia is focusing more on its core business, productivity has increased by more than 50 percent and the company received the eBay Star Developer Innovator Award.

"We don't have the luxury of dedicating resources to developing an on demand business, yet we need to better meet the technology management needs of our clients," said Bjorn Espenes, president and CEO of Infopia. "Now, with Oracle On Demand for ISVs, we don't have to allocate bandwidth to ongoing servicing and maintenance of the entire customer system -- Oracle manages the Oracle software for us. Most importantly, we are now servicing our clients in a world-class technology environment that they would otherwise not be able to afford, and previously only obtainable for large enterprises."

ISV partners such as Infopia have built a business on Oracle On Demand for ISVs because it provides the following:

  • Low cost, pre-configured access to Oracle technology -- The state of the art infrastructure includes Oracle 10g Database and Application Server and employs Lintel Grids at the Oracle Data Center.
  • Better service and proactive maintenance -- Oracle has standardized the key software management flows associated with the availability, performance, security, problem and change of the Oracle infrastructure. These flows automate critical processes such as performance tuning, upgrades, capacity planning, data recovery and security administration.
  • Business scalability -- The mature Oracle On Demand management processes and technology infrastructure offers the same high-performance and high-availability benefits received by enterprise corporations on Oracle 10g.

"Offering our ISV partners access to the Oracle On Demand Grid gives them the opportunity to develop solutions or offer their existing solutions in an on demand environment," said Glenn P. Lim, vice president of Oracle On Demand. "Enabling them to provide their customers with a complete and secure industry solution online -- at an affordable cost -- makes good business sense for ISVs, their customers, and for Oracle."

Relying on Oracle On Demand for ISVs, partners will also be able to leverage the Oracle PartnerNetwork, a global business resource of more than 13,000 companies that deliver innovative enterprise software solutions based on Oracle software. Through access to Oracle's premier products, education, technical services, marketing and sales support, the Oracle PartnerNetwork provides partners with the resources they need to be successful in today's Internet economy. Oracle partners are able to offer customers leading-edge solutions backed by Oracle's position as the world's largest enterprise software company.

"On Demand for ISVs will offer solution providers a low cost, internet- based infrastructure for showcasing Oracle-based applications to their customers and prospects," said Bronwyn Hastings, vice president of Worldwide Alliances and Channels at Oracle Corp. "By leveraging a managed and scalable infrastructure, ISVs will be able to reallocate scarce resources to ongoing investment in applications development to address customers' changing needs. It also provides a leveraged and easily accessible means to reach a larger number of customers. This offering, available for ISVs through Oracle PartnerNetwork, can be used for demos, proof of concepts, as well as to offer software as a service to customers."
