Systems/Enterprise:
ACTUATE COMPLETES IBM GRID COMPUTING ENABLEMENT PROGRAM
Actuate Corp announced that its Enterprise Reporting Application Platform
complies with the IBM Grid computing enablement, Level 6. Actuate's
Grid-enabled platform allows companies to more cost-effectively deploy
financial management, customer self-service and sales management reporting
applications and ensure that these strategic applications are always
available.
Most companies are using Enterprise Reporting Applications for
mission-critical functions such as financial management, customer self-service
and sales management. Corporate IT departments need these types of
applications to not only be available 24-7 but also be cost-effectively
deployed to 100 percent of the target user community both inside and outside
the firewall. Grid computing enables the virtualization of distributed
computing and data resources including processing, network bandwidth and
storage capacity to create a single system image, ensuring application
scalability and availability.
The Actuate Grid-enabled Enterprise Reporting Application Platform allows
multiple Enterprise Reporting Applications to be built, run, administered, and
maintained from a central IBM server or cluster of servers. These applications
efficiently share services and resources across the enterprise. Actuate's
unique architecture leverages IBM's infrastructure and hardware to allow
businesses to seamlessly add new Enterprise Reporting Applications and users
as needs expand. Additionally, Actuate's extremely scalable platform allows
data to be delivered to a wide spectrum of users on demand, regardless of data
quantity or user volume.
"The ability to cost-effectively deploy Enterprise Reporting Applications and
ensure 100 percent adoption of decision-making information is very important
to our customers," said Pete Cittadini, CEO and president of Actuate Corp.
"Actuate is excited to join IBM in advocating and enabling this innovative
technology. We see Grid computing as an ideal means to deliver information and
gain 100 percent user adoption of Enterprise Reporting Applications."
Actuate's Enterprise Reporting Application Platform was successfully deployed
on a Grid of geographically dispersed AIX, Linux and Windows nodes. The
platform is now Grid enabled based on the following criteria:
- Allows multiple applications to run as tightly coupled parallel services.
- Based on a Service Oriented Architecture.
- Supports heterogeneous computing environments: AIX, Linux, Windows, etc.
- Allows multiple instances of a service to be started on single or multiple
Grid nodes.
- Handles parallel requests by one or multiple users.
- Provides faster results and higher availability through intense
communication and synchronization between clients and services.
