- EGA PRESIDENT SPEAKS ON STATE OF ALLIANCE

- Recently, GRIDtoday editor Derrick Harris was able to talk to EGA
President Donald Deutsch, who also serves as vice president of Oracle, about
a number of topics, including the current state of the EGA and what any
collaboration with other standards organizations, such as the GGF, might
look like.
- EU GRANTS 52M EUROS TO BOOST USE OF GRID
- A 52-million-euro package of 12 European Union-funded research projects,
that together aim to bring "Grid" networked computing out of research labs
and into industry, has just been launched by the European Commission.
- EMC APPOINTS IBM GRID VET JEFFREY NICK AS CTO
- Most recently, Nick was responsible for the design and architecture of
IBM's On Demand initiative. Nick also led IBM's Grid Computing strategy,
responsible for the definition and evolution of IBM's Open Grid Services
Architecture.
- ORACLE GRID INDEX MAPS ADOPTION OF GRID COMPUTING IN EUROPE
- The Oracle Grid Index consists of a single number, derived from research
into Grid technologies in companies across Europe. With 0 signifying a low
score and 10 signifying a high one, the overall Oracle Grid Index for Europe
for Autumn 2004 is 3.1.
- SC GLOBAL 2004 SIMULTANEOUSLY LINKS ALL INHABITED CONTINENTS
- With the addition of Africa to the list of participating continents, SC
Global 2004, the Access Grid-enabled component of SC2004, will include a
first-ever demonstration of a simultaneous connection of AG nodes on all six
inhabited continents.

- EU SPENDS 93 MILLION EUROS ON GÉANT
- GÉANT enables all researchers from Iceland to the Caucasus to pool their
ideas, data and computing power to achieve results that they could never
manage alone.
- NIMROD GOES INTERNATIONAL
- A recent round of discussions between key international research centers
and the Australian Cooperative Research center for Enterprise Distributed
Systems (DSTC) at Monash University will see the Nimrod/G Grid tool set
deployed at a number of key sites around the globe over coming months.
- INT'L TEAM ESTABLISHES INTERNET LAND-SPEED BENCHMARK
- The team transferred 859GB of data in less than 17 minutes at a rate of
6.63 Gb per second between the CERN facility in Geneva, Switzerland, and
Caltech in Pasadena, Calif., a distance of more than 15,766 kilometers. The
speed is equivalent to transferring a full-length DVD movie in just four
seconds.
