OSI Opens Horizons With Novell, IBM, Apple, Agilysys
OSI, along with IBM, Novell and Agilysys, announced its involvement in the
Dedicated Linux Hosting industry. Within the walls of their Dedicated Data
Center, the management has made the bold move to use Apple xServe with Mac OS
X, and Novell's newest version of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server on all of their
x86-based servers from IBM. With this new direction comes a new standard in
the software and hosting industry. In the past, Linux has been a software
underdog when it comes to providing the core systems for dedicated hosting
companies -- but with its new benchmarks and the ability to run cross platform
on both 32-bit x86 chips and the 64-bit x86 chips, SUSE LINUX Enterprise
Server is the perfect fit for OSI Hosting.net, INC. and their IBM xSeries
Products.
"I have followed the progress of SUSE from their 7.0 personnel edition, up to
the new 9.0 version for the enterprise, and I can say they are the best choice
for OSI," Jason Macer, founder of OSI, stated. "We are not on a crusade here;
we're on something even better. We're out here to show the world that Linux is
better than Windows. That is not to say that Linux is right for everyone just
yet."
OSI's Dallas facility has 101,000 square feet to hold their dedicated servers,
corporate offices and a future blade server center. In conjunction with IBM,
Agilysys and Novell, OSI is rolling out 12,000 IBM xSeries servers running
SUSE Linux, along with several hundred Apple xServes. In September, OSI will
add 10,000 additional IBM xSeries servers powered by SUSE Linux. These 22,000
servers will not only prove the dependability of SUSE Linux and the
FreeBSD-based Mac OS X, they will also launch OSI into the spotlight position
of "World's Largest Open Source Based Dedicated Hosting Company."
OSI isn't stopping there. At the end of September, OSI, IBM, Tech-Plan, and
Agilysys will team up to design a showroom datacenter, build this facility and
install 200,000 IBM Blade Servers running SUSE Linux. This 25,000-square foot
showroom, expanding the company's capacity to better serve its customers
exponentially, will also serve as a business card for the SUSE Linux operating
system and IBM Blade Series. OSI, through its Web site which is located at
www.osihosting.net/, has announced a contest, for users and non users
alike, calling for people who are artist, non-artist, and designers alike to
submit their idea for this showroom.
"Already we have had design entries which look like something off of a Sci-Fi
set," Macer noted. The 10 best designs for the new showroom will be announced
on Sept. 10. The grand- prize winner, which will be picked on the 29th of
September, will receive $20,000, an all expense paid trip to Dallas for 2 to
attend the grand opening of the showroom facility, and they will have their
name inscribed on a plaque, which will be installed in the main facility
viewing area, for all who enter to see.
Though OSI is dedicated to providing the best dedicated servers for the best
price on the market, they also offer colocation and management services in
their Austin co-location facility, which houses approximately 93,000 square
feet of space data center floor space. In Mid-September, OSI will be expanding
into five more co-location facilities: One in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of
Texas, one in Florida, one in Colorado and two in Washington.
