- NEW GGF CHAIR LINESCH SPEAKS
By Tom Tabor, Publisher
- GRIDtoday publisher Tom Tabor recently caught up with Linesch and took the
opportunity to find out more about the man behind the title -- why he is the
right man for the job, why he wanted the job, and his vision for the GGF --
as well as his views on working with other standards bodies and the
increasing role of industry concerns in the world of Grid computing.
- DCML ORGANIZATION TO ADVANCE DATA CENTER STANDARD WITHIN OASIS
- The transition will result in the formation of the OASIS DCML Member
Section, which will promote the use of utility computing by providing a
standard way to represent the IT environment and enabling data center
automation and system management solutions to easily exchange information
about the environment under management.
- GridPP REACHES HALFWAY POINT, PRESENTS AT e-Science MEETING
- GridPP, the United Kingdom's particle physics Grid project, was set up by
the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council in 2000. On Sept. 1 the
project reached its halfway point, with the official end of its first phase
and the start of GridPP2.
- IBM TECHNOLOGY SERVES UP TIMELY US OPEN TENNIS RESULTS ON DEMAND
- Last year IBM introduced Tivoli ThinkDynamic Orchestrator, which permits
autonomic provisioning between different applications, on different servers.
During non-peak times for USOpen.org, the servers are also running protein
folding and credit scoring applications for other IBM clients.
- TACC TO HOST NMI INTEGRATION TESTBED FINAL RESULTS WORKSHOP
- The nine core NMI Testbed sites will highlight the results and insights
they have gained from over two years of middleware evaluation and
integration, in enterprise as well as research applications.
Systems/Enterprise
- THOMAS WEISEL PARTNERS USES xTier 2.0 FOR JAVA
- The xTier components can be utilized as the technical requirements of the
application dictate and include a Grid Computing component, an Object
Caching component, an Embedded Workflow component, a high-speed Object
Marshalling (Serialization) component, a hierarchical Configuration
Management component and a Job Scheduling component.
- IBM TO PROVIDE SUPERCOMPUTING POWER ON DEMAND FOR OIL INDUSTRY
- Customers of the IBM DCCOD center in Houston will have the ability to
leverage IBM supercomputing power via a pay-as-you-go delivery model.
Customers who already have substantial supercomputing capacity of their own
can supplement that capacity to handle peak loads, leveraging IBM Grid
technologies.
- OVERSTOCK.COM STANDARDIZES ON ORACLE GRID TECHNOLOGY
- Overstock.com will consolidate its Oracle-based clusters into a Grid,
enabling it to better reallocate IT resources for high volume on-line
transaction processing, query intensive data warehousing applications or
however else needed.
- VERISITY, PLATFORM DELIVER GRID-ENABLED VPA SOLUTION
- As part of this joint agreement, best-in-class technologies are joined to
automate and simplify verification, from executable plans to verification
closure, to achieve higher predictability and enhanced quality in chip
design at a lower system cost.
- WEBIFY SOLUTIONS ATTAINS 'ON DEMAND OPTIMIZED' STATUS
- The advanced designation is granted to only a select few independent
software vendors that have verified enablement with a customer on at least
two IBM middleware products and an IBM server, published an IBM joint
customer win reference, and have written an IBM joint industry on demand
solution brief.
Applications
- BIOLOGICAL INFORMATICS CONSORTIUM SELECTS UNITED DEVICES GRID MP
- Japan Biological Informatics Consortium is using Grid MP to configure an
intra-organization Grid that utilizes the research center's numerous
workstations, implementing this Grid for protein modeling and virtual
screening via a Grid-enabled software product developed by JBIRC.
- METATOMIX PROVIDES REAL-TIME JUDICIAL INTEGRATION SOLUTION
- The system will be used by Florida judges to achieve a real-time,
centralized, unified view and understanding of all pertinent information
from across numerous database systems -- knowledge necessary for effective
court case sentencing and processing.
- GRIDS CENTER SOFTWARE SUITE RELEASE 5.1 NOW AVAILABLE
- The release notes include changes since NMI 5.0, component notes, Condor
6.6.6 release notes, NWS 2.10.1 release notes and uberftp updates since NMI
5.0.
- ORION ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP FOR gridMathematica
- gridMathematica combines the power of the world's leading technical
computing environment with modern computing clusters and Grids to solve the
most demanding problems in mathematics, science, engineering and finance.
- QNX AWARDED PATENT FOR INNOVATION IN DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING
- With QNX's patented distributed kernel technology, applications on any
device can transparently access the hardware and software resources of any
other connected device, without extra programming.
- vCompute UNVEILS 'ON-DEMAND' SUPERCOMPUTING FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH
- Virtual Compute's Bioinformatics Group understands that research
methodologies in medical fields are compute-intensive. Therefore, vCompute
has assembled cutting edge supercomputing resources, algorithms and
heuristics that are computationally efficient on both Grid-based and serial
or parallel supercomputing systems.
