Windows/Solaris/Red Hat Available On Sun Fire Blade 1600
Rave Computer Association Inc, an IT solution provider and a strategic iForce
Partner of Sun Microsystems, introduced a fully-integrated Sun Fire B1600+
capable of running Windows XP or 2003, Solaris 9, Solaris X86 and Red Hat
Linux simultaneously in a 3U chassis.
Since 1988, Rave Computer continues to provide hardware and software solutions
that meet our customers' diverse computer industry requirements through
integration, customization, and value-added services. This consolidated robust
system is available only through Rave Computer. Integration, support, and
installation are available through Rave Computer Professional Services for
Windows OS not supported on the Sun Fire B100x and B200x blades.
The Rave Computer integrated Sun Fire B1600+ provides data center
consolidation, eliminating the need to use multi-vendor platforms to
accomplish the same objectives. Additional advantages of this system include
lower TCO, smaller footprint, reduced power requirements, minimal heat
dissipation and fewer replaceable customer components.
"Rave's development efforts were driven by a request from the United States
military to meet weight, depth, and height requirements by consolidating
multi-vendor platforms into a single 3U form factor," said Rick Darter,
president of Rave Computer. "Additional goals included the improvement of
logistical challenges by reducing the required quantity of spare parts, the
requirement for multi-vendor platforms, and the cross training of field
personnel. This solution provides optimal flexibility for end-users by
allowing them to deploy multiple operation systems within the same hardware
chassis. I believe that this solution redefines the concept of open systems."
"Since the inception of blade-server technology, the goal has been to increase
IT efficiency. Rave Computer provides customers with the innovative ability to
consolidate and downsize their current server usage by embracing blade
technology," said Doris Block-Tomlinson, director of marketing for Rave
Computer. "Customers can architect this solution into a 72-inch rack of Sun
Fire B1600+ for high-density Grid computing. This Beowulf cluster model of 160
processors is a cost-effective way to approach supercomputer performance at a
fraction of the price. Combine this solution with a NAS storage solution and
you have a complete Datacenter-in-a-Rack."
