- THE GRID: DEFINING THE FUTURE OF THE INTERNET
(Part 3 of 3)
By Wolfgang Gentzsch, MCNC Grid Computing & Networking Services
- In the final installment of the series, Wolfgang Gentzsch discusses the
many benefits of Grid technology, both micro and macro. Other topics
discussed include agents of change, what comes next and how Grid computing
will affect our future.
- NEC TO ESTABLISH GRID PROMOTION CENTER IN JAPAN
- NEC is aiming for a 30 percent share of the Japanese Grid computing market
by 2008, which the company expects to swell 25 times to approximately $4.59
billion (500 billion yen) by then.
- UNITED DEVICES GRANTED INTERNET GRID SEARCH PATENT
- Using Grid computing techniques and leading search algorithms together
could produce the most up to date indexes while allowing all media types to
be included in search results.
Systems/Enterprise
- CHORUS SYSTEMS JOINS IBM AUTONOMIC COMPUTING INITIATIVE
- This partnership allows Chorus Systems to leverage the autonomic
capabilities within IBM products while helping to develop new technologies
that advance the cause of autonomic computing.
- NEW MetiLinx CONNECTOR ENABLES REAL-TIME UTILITY COMPUTING
- This updated version of the MetiLinx Connector extends MOM 2005 to
virtualize and unify heterogeneous server and partition environments, giving
customers the platform for real-time utility computing.
- PLUMTREE UNVEILS NINE CUSTOMER CASE STUDIES
- The white paper shares how one Plumtree customer achieved a return on
investment (ROI) of 564 percent on a set of expert location and
collaboration applications, how another saved $4 million a year in
communications costs with a dealer dashboard application.
- THOR-LO SELECTS CORIO APPLICATIONS ON DEMAND
- Corio Applications on Demand is a service that delivers enterprise
applications from leading independent software vendors. Customers
"pay-as-you-go" and avoid expensive upfront project and infrastructure
costs.
Applications
- GRIDBUS RELEASES ALCHEMI [.NET ENTERPRISE GRID FRAMEWORK] v0.8.0
- Alchemi is an enterprise Grid computing framework for Windows built using
.NET with the primary goal of being easy to use. It provides the runtime
machinery to construct a high-throughput enterprise Grid environment out of
underutilized desktops, and a programming environment to develop Grid
applications.
- GROMACS BIOCHEMICAL SOFTWARE PORTED TO ClearSpeed PROCESSOR
- ClearSpeed's unique parallel architecture is designed to dramatically
accelerate floating-point processing, enabling supercomputing capabilities
on affordable platforms including clusters and workstations.
- PYTHON/GLOBUS TOOLS SPEED UP DEVELOPMENT OF DATA GRID FOR LIGO
- LIGO, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, is a
facility dedicated to detecting cosmic gravitational waves -- ripples in the
fabric of space and time -- and interpreting these waves to provide a more
complete picture of the universe.
- R-GMA INCLUDED IN LATEST LCG RELEASE
- LCG recently announced a new release of their Grid Software, LCG-2_2_0,
which now includes the R-GMA (Relational Grid Monitoring Architecture)
middleware. R-GMA is important for a number of experiments that will use it
for monitoring their jobs and for the new LCG accounting infrastructure.
