Demarc Launches Sentarus Threat Management Software
Demarc Security, a global provider of dynamic threat management solutions,
announced the availability of Sentarus software -- one of the most powerful,
comprehensive security solutions on the market.
Previously available in a hardware edition, the new, enhanced software edition
of Sentarus provides network-based intrusion detection and prevention
capabilities, host-based intrusion detection, service/application up-time
monitoring, and process/application regeneration all through an intuitive,
central management console interface. Sentarus uses a combination of stateful
signature, protocol anomaly, traffic anomaly and other advanced detection
methods to accurately identify real attacks, dropping the connection and
responding to new attacks by complete packet denial. Incorporating an
ultra-refined data correlation engine capable of handling hundreds of millions
of events while still providing sub-millisecond response times, Sentarus
allows real-time network monitoring and protection on any scale.
Sentarus has been deployed in the United States and internationally by
financial institutions, health care and education organizations, and
government and military agencies. Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Education
Services (BOCES), an organization which manages Internet connectivity,
payroll, student management services and other network systems for the
southern tier of New York's public school districts is a current Sentarus
customer. One of 38 such entities around the state, Broome-Tioga BOCES serves
15 school districts in Broome and Tioga counties, supporting nearly 40,000
high school students and 12,000 adult students.
"We chose to move our systems to Sentarus because of its intrusion prevention
capabilities, speed, ease of configuration and centralized management. With
all the devices and end-users connected to the districts we serve, the
vulnerability scanning and system integrity components are critical to help us
protect our networks and confidential data," said Michael Goodman, network
security specialist with Broome-Tioga BOCES.
Increasing use of the Internet for vital systems such as human resources,
payroll, services and other business functions means network performance and
protection are key to an organization's ongoing operations.
"During the first six months of 2004, the number of Internet-based,
security-related events impacting business operations skyrocketed," said Jim
Hurley, vice president of research at Aberdeen Group. "Our recent research
confirms that most firms are aggressively pursuing a strategy based on
avoidance and prevention -- enabled by new avoidance and prevention
technologies."
