Chelsio Delivers Highest Performance 10Gb Server Adapter
Chelsio Communications Inc announced the highest performance 10Gb Server
Adapter card available on the market, at a price point less than $2,000 each,
further driving the adoption of 10Gb Ethernet in networking and storage
applications.
The N110 is a half-size PCI-X interface card, a streamlined version of
Chelsio's highly successful T110 host bus adapter. The T110 is still the only
10Gb Ethernet adapter with protocol off-load in silicon, significantly raising
the throughput and latency performance bar for the 10Gb Ethernet adapter
industry. With a price of just $1,995 (in quantities of 10), the N110 is the
lowest-priced and highest-performing 10Gb Ethernet Server Adapter on the
market.
In comparative performance testing verified by independent testing lab
VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge, Chelsio's N110 and T110 adapters
consistently delivered better throughput (up to 128 percent higher) and lower
latency (up to 71 percent faster) than the comparable adapters from Intel
Corp and S2io Inc.
VeriTest certified that the testing was performed in a fair and consistent
manner, and validated the conclusion that Chelsio's T110 and N110 have the
best performance of the 10Gb Ethernet adapters benchmarked. The full report is
available upon request from Chelsio.
With the introduction of the N110, Chelsio is now offering a family of
products targeted at different market requirements. The T110, with TCP and
iSCSI offload, serves CPU-intensive applications while the N110 is designed
for applications that require raw network performance capabilities. Both
devices will be showcased at the LinuxWorld conference and exposition in San
Francisco.
"Today we are starting to see a transition by high performance computing
environments to accelerate adoption of this next generation technology," said
Kianoosh Naghshineh, founder and CEO of Chelsio Communications. "Our customers
understand the benefits 10Gb Ethernet brings to performance in data centers
and across the computing Grid, and we will continue to drive the price and
performance capabilities of 10Gb Ethernet adapter technology."
Chelsio achieves the high bandwidth and low latency performance on its cards
due to the underlying Terminator VLIW (very long instruction word)
architecture, which delivers numerous advantages over RISC-based
multiprocessor system-on-a-chip implementations. The Terminator ASIC can
handle more than one million concurrent sessions, and in the T110 card
configuration supports up to 64,000 simultaneous connections.
