Enhanced Version Of webMethods Portal Now Available

webMethods Inc announced the general availability of webMethods Portal 6.1.5, which decreases deployment time and increases functionality for portal customers. webMethods Portal is a standards-based presentation platform for delivering personalized, role-based access to relevant information, applications and business processes across the enterprise.

webMethods Portal 6.1.5 is fully compliant with the leading-edge standards JSR168 and WS-Remote Portlets (WSRP). By incorporating the JSR168 and WSRP standards, webMethods Portal can host any portlet that has been written to these standards, thus helping customers avoid vendor lock-in and maximize developer skill sets. Now customers can choose from a rich variety of compliant remote content and incorporate the content with just a few mouse clicks and no custom programming.

With this release, webMethods continues to strengthen its commitment to Eclipse by leveraging it as the standard for portlet development. The Portlet Developer, written as a plug-in for the Eclipse Platform, allows developers to quickly build and deploy portlets that leverage the power of the webMethods Portal's standards-based architecture. By leveraging Eclipse for portlet authoring, customers will have ultimate flexibility and control over their development efforts while significantly decreasing deployment time.

The globalization advancements with the new release enable webMethods Portal to meet the language needs of customers around the world. This is important not only for organizations in non-English speaking locales but also for global companies who may utilize a portal to introduce non-English content to select audiences.

webMethods Portal 6.1.5 also introduces visual Web development technology that allow for user interface development without writing a line of code. Now business level end users can aid in the creation of user interfaces that are compelling in design and rich in functionality. The technology also dramatically speeds up the design process and enables faster portal deployments. By enhancing the default user interface of webMethods Portal, end users will be able to utilize the user interface as a sample or starting point for deployments.

"This latest release builds on the success of webMethods Portal and dramatically transforms enterprise portal development and deployment," said Kristin Weller, executive vice president of product development for webMethods Inc. "webMethods Portal enables enterprises to rapidly create and deploy standards-based enterprise portals to improve productivity, protect and leverage existing IT investments, and maximize the benefits of enterprise integration."
