SPECTRUM Integrity Manages TeraGrid Connection, Others At Purdue
Aprisma Management Technologies Inc, a Gores Technology Group Company,
announced that Purdue University has deployed Aprisma's SPECTRUM Integrity to
manage its campus-wide network. Supporting more than 69,000 students
system-wide, 38,500 main campus students and 5,000 faculty and staff, SPECTRUM
is the primary fault isolation and reporting platform for Purdue University's
nearly 2,800 networked devices. Wide area network connections at speeds up to
10 Gb per second link the university's regional campuses with commodity
Internet, Internet2, TeraGrid and Purdue's main campus initiative known as
"BoilerNet," using Cisco and Juniper routers. Academic classrooms and
residence halls contain more than 1,000 wireless devices.
"SPECTRUM's fault isolation and root cause analysis technology have proven to
be valuable tools," declared Gary Stair, manager of network operations. "Since
deploying SPECTRUM, we have been able to take a proactive step to driving
stability, responsiveness, and uptime of university IT services. Growth
projections, asset utilization reports, response time analysis, and service
quality trending from SPECTRUM are helping us exceed our users' expectations.
This kind of technology helps position Purdue as a recognized leader in the
engineering and technical sciences fields."
SPECTRUM's OneClick graphical interface delivers one convenient view to the
university's network operations center (NOC). NOC technicians can view
application servers, network topology, devices and alarms at a glance.
Purdue's NOC plans to incorporate Aprisma's integration with the Remedy Action
Request System (ARS) to automate escalation procedures and enable prioritized
responses based on impacted services, applications, departments or users.
"We count on SPECTRUM to support our network operations," Stair explained. "We
conducted a year-long extensive analysis of leading vendors, and concluded
that Aprisma and SPECTRUM deliver the viability, scalability, innovation, and
breadth of supported vendors and technologies that we were seeking."
