SCO Extends Partnership With Ericom Software
The SCO Group Inc, the owner of the UNIX operating system and a provider of
UNIX-based solutions, announced that it has extended its strategic partnership
with Ericom Software, a provider of advanced Web and wireless integration and
Host Connectivity solutions by releasing the SCOx Web Services Substrate (WSS)
on UNIX platforms. The SCOx WSS toolset combines the best in Web Services
technology from both SCO and Ericom, allowing SCO UNIX customers to easily
transform legacy applications and databases into new feature-rich Web and
wireless applications. Currently, there are a significant number of SCO UNIX
customers utilizing legacy systems -- equaling several hundred thousand
installed servers -- that could benefit from this innovative solution.
SCO UNIX customers that upgrade to SCO UnixWare 7.1.4 automatically gain
access to an innovative toolset that is specifically designed to help
customers grow their business, connect with partners and integrate with
suppliers using specialized Web Services. A separate release of the SCOx WSS
will be announced soon for users of OpenServer 5.0.7 Supplement C. This
combined SCO/Ericom product offering delivers the tools, applications and
infrastructure to enhance Web and wireless access to legacy systems and
databases.
SCO and Ericom Software have teamed up to deliver state-of-the-art Web
Services technology on SCO UNIX platforms through SCOx WSS. Currently shipping
on UnixWare 7.1.4, SCOx WSS consists of SCO WebFace, SQL Encapsulator, Web
Application Manager and Ericom PowerTerm Host Publisher.
"The SCOx WSS framework helps resellers and developers who want to meet their
SMB and branch office customer needs for sophisticated Web-based solutions
while leveraging their existing products and services," said Olaf Janssens,
president of Janssens Consulting. "This combined product offering -- built
from the SCO/Ericom strategic partnership -- is packed with powerful tools
that can create Web Services rapidly, saving weeks, months and even years in
redeveloping business logic. SCOx WSS customers on UnixWare 7.1.4 can now
reuse, rather than replace their proven legacy system data and immediately
begin integrating it with any other system or database on the Web."
"The release of the SCOx Web Services Substrate marks an important milestone
in our relationship with SCO," said Eran Heyman, CEO and founder of Ericom
Software. "PowerTerm Host Publisher's inclusion in the SCOx WSS is a key
element in helping SCO customers, resellers and developers easily unlock the
power of their mission-critical legacy applications and integrate it with
other applications via the Web. The best part about the solution is that it
doesn't require customers to change their existing legacy application -- SCOx
WSS simply hooks into the system and wraps the business logic up into reusable
Web Services."
"The challenge for most mission-critical legacy systems is that they are
difficult to integrate with other data or systems without re-writing the
entire application," said Jeff Hunsaker, senior vice president and general
manager of the UNIX Division for The SCO Group. "By combining the best of
SCO's own Web Services technologies and Ericom's PowerTerm Host Publisher, SCO
customers that choose to upgrade, now gain the ability to easily unlock
critical legacy data and business logic and integrate it with other systems
and databases within their business without re-writing their entire legacy
system."
