Oracle Outlines Vision For Comprehensive ID Management Solution

At the Catalyst Conference North America, Oracle announced plans to provide comprehensive enhancements to the Oracle Identity Management (OIM) solution. With the recent acquisition of Phaos Technology, a security and federated identity management vendor, updates to OIM will include expanded federated identity and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) security capabilities that will provide customers a secure, scalable and robust identity management offering for heterogeneous environments.

To deliver the industry's most complete identity management solution, Oracle is actively contributing to the development of open standards and interoperable technologies. Through its membership in the Liberty Alliance, Oracle plans to leverage its expertise in security and identity management to help further the organization's success and development of Liberty Alliance ID-FF and ID-WSF open standards for identity federation. As an active member of OASIS, Oracle also supports the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) standards. Additionally, Oracle plans to support other related standards as they mature and are integrated with the efforts spearheaded by organizations such as Liberty and OASIS.

"Federated identity extends the value of enterprise investments in identity management to support a wide range of business initiatives," said Phil Schacter, vice president and director of Directory and Security Strategies for Burton Group. "Oracle's support for SAML and the work of OASIS and the Liberty Alliance demonstrate a strong commitment to industry collaboration towards open standards. Customers of Oracle Identity Management Solutions will benefit from the forthcoming incorporation of new federated identity features."

"Oracle is deeply committed to providing comprehensive identity management solutions for heterogeneous environments," said Thomas Kurian, senior vice president of Oracle Server Technologies. "We are delivering on this commitment through Oracle Identity Management's support of open standards such as SAML and Liberty."

The Oracle Identity Management solution enables organizations to securely interoperate with multiple business partners and access their applications with unified user identity and credentials. Prior to standards such as Liberty ID-FF, business partners needed to implement duplicate directory and authentication services to securely communicate with one another -- often slowing business transactions and resulting in significant Information Technology (IT) costs. Oracle's Liberty ID-FF capabilities and Web Services security interfaces facilitate next generation Web interactions by providing customers with the ability to easily leverage the benefits of Oracle Identity Management and Federated Security with their existing IT infrastructure and SOA implementations.

"Managing security risks has become an increasingly strategic initiative. Recognizing this, Oracle is making it easier for organizations to collaborate in a secure environment through our Liberty Alliance-certified solutions," said Mary Ann Davidson, chief security officer of Oracle Corp. "With the Oracle Identity Management solution, companies will no longer have to compromise security to conduct business."
