BEA DELIVERS SOA KIT WITH WebLogic SERVER PROCESS EDITION
BEA Systems Inc announced the general availability of BEA WebLogic Server
Process Edition, designed to help enable companies to quickly and
cost-effectively experience the benefits of service-oriented architecture
(SOA). BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition, a premium edition of the
industry's leading application server, combines application development and
business process management (BPM), which are designed to help provide a unique
"Process-Driven" approach to creating and maintaining service-oriented
applications.
SOA is a standards-based organizational and design methodology that can more
closely align IT with business processes to increase business responsiveness
and help drive down complexity and costs. As companies move to service-enable
new and existing enterprise resources, the ability to rapidly compose,
orchestrate and expose these services will help define how well IT can meet
the needs of the business. BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition is among the
first in its class designed to provide service enablement, service
orchestration and composite application development from a single Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) running on unified run-time architecture. The
product is the first to leverage a powerful BPM framework that can allow for a
"Process-Driven" approach, which is designed to help users easily and rapidly
develop, orchestrate and maintain composite services and applications that can
be aligned to their business process needs graphically, and where appropriate,
through Java.
"Covad has a complex business process, spanning Covad's national network and
several third party suppliers, designed to automatically fulfill service
changes," said Paul Grantham, vice president of software and information
systems at Covad. "We welcome BEA's new business process infrastructure as a
way to help simplify support and to extend the automation even further."
BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition is one component of BEA's Liquid Computing
vision of improving IT responsiveness from "months-to-minutes." Liquid
Computing, an SOA-based approach to IT, is designed to offer the next
generation of business integration that can help to reduce complexity and
fundamentally change the economics of enterprise computing. The tight
integration built into the industry-leading BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 is
designed to address customers' needs as they adopt more robust SOA-based
technologies. BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition and BEA WebLogic Platform
8.1 share a common administration, security, development and runtime
framework, designed to allow customers to easily upgrade existing
architectures as their requirements increase over time.
"BEA's WebLogic Server Process Edition offers our customers the opportunity to
'start-smart' on an SOA project right away in a manner designed to be
cost-effective and results-based," said Tod Nielsen, executive vice president
of products organization at BEA Systems. "Businesses are adopting BEA's SOA
and Liquid Computing principles in their own infrastructure because many can
see almost immediate value and return on investment through our platform and
unified architecture approach to service enablement, orchestration and
composite applications. This new product is designed to help start customers
down the path of SOA and Liquid Computing and sends a strong message about the
importance of business and technology innovation at BEA."
