Performance Technologies IPnexus CPC4416 Now Supports FlexNAT
Performance Technologies, a developer of platforms, components and software
solutions for the communications, military and commercial markets, announced
its award-winning IPnexus CPC4416 Embedded Ethernet Switch now supports the
company's FlexNAT (Flexible Network Address Translation) module.
Performance Technologies' FlexNAT module/IPnexus switch combo is the only
single slot, hardware-based packet processing solution for the embedded PICMG
2.16 market. Combined with field-proved software, it allows designers to build
robust and scaleable embedded systems with wire speed, "NAT-capable" Gigabit
uplinks. FlexNAT offers advanced networking capabilities, such as
sophisticated inter-network translation, load sharing and the extension of
private networks over public networks, which enable a broader range of
capabilities for packet communications and networking applications.
By grouping essential switching and packet processing functions in a single
slot, the combination of the CPC4416 and FlexNAT module saves crucial chassis
space, while enhancing system security, manageability, resiliency and
performance. For the first time, system designers can get the benefits of a
state-of-the-art 24 port 10/100 Megabit switch with two Gigabit uplink ports
that can each support wire speed NAT through a FlexNAT module.
"Our FlexNAT module provides customers greater performance than competing,
software-only solutions. By offloading tasks from the switch processor, we can
vastly improve uplink speeds while offering better internal and external
network throughput," said Hank Heneghan, director of product management for
Performance Technologies. "Our ongoing work with FlexNAT reflects our focus on
being the leading provider of cutting-edge, packet-based solutions for the
converging communications infrastructure."
Performance Technologies' FlexNAT module comes bundled with comprehensive NAT
and Load Sharing NAT (LSNAT) software. NAT capabilities make it easier and
safer to deploy embedded systems in remote locales, enabling a secure
connection with the public network using only a single public IP address. This
makes it easier to manage the remote system while minimizing the use of public
addresses. The single entry/exit point is shielded by the NAT function to
disconnect the private network within the chassis from "un-trusted" exterior
networks. The LSNAT function can be used to create load balanced server
clusters that automatically distribute service requests across multiple server
blades on a policy basis.
