GRIDBUS HEAD GETS StorageTek GRID FELLOWSHIP: Rajkumar Buyya, currently head of the Grid Computing and Distributed Systems (GRIDS) Laboratory at the University of Melbourne's computer science department, was named the first StorageTek Fellow of Grid Computing.
U.S., EU MEET TO EXPLORE GRID EXPANSION INITIATIVES: The European Union has already been working to spread Grid networking endeavors. Their high-speed research and education network, GEANT, is spreading to Asia, the Balkans, Latin America, the Mediterranean and Russia via the use of shared Grid resources.
McNealy KEYNOTE POINTS TO MAJOR SUCCESS FOR JAVA, THRASHES IBM: Sun Microsystems opened day two of its ninth annual JavaOne software conference with a keynote by Scott McNealy, Sun's chairman and CEO. McNealy focused mainly on the worldwide acceptance and use of Java, but did take time to send a message to IBM.

ALTAIR LAUNCHES ONLINE MESSAGE BOARD FOR GRID CUSTOMERS: Altair announced the launch of iExchange to its registered clients on June 18 and describes the online message board center as "the communication infrastructure needed to nurture the growth of global community forums for CAE and Grid computing software users."
ORACLE LOOKS TO DRIVE INDUSTRY SUCCESS OF GRID COMPUTING: Oracle welcomed over 1,000 new and existing independent software vendor (ISV) partners to the first Oracle PartnerNetwork ISV Forum designed to help them speed industry solution development, and marketing and sales success.

SUN SELECTS DATADIRECT TO ENHANCE JAVA SYSTEM APPLICATION SERVER: Sun and DataDirect Technologies are working together to evaluate other areas within Sun's business that could benefit from implementing DataDirect Connect for JDBC.
INRA DEPLOYS NINE-SITE inSORS ACCESS GRID SYSTEM: The Inland Northwest Research Alliance (INRA) recently purchased nine 8-Port Cubes, an Access Grid appliance, for all of its member locations. INRA also deployed an Enterprise Manager/Virtual Venue server and an IG "Archive and Live" Recorder server.
