SUN SELECTS DATADIRECT TO ENHANCE JAVA SYSTEM APPLICATION SERVER
DataDirect Technologies, a provider of components for connecting software to
data, announced that Sun Microsystems has selected its DataDirect Connect for
JDBC suite of drivers to expand the functionality and performance of the Sun
Java Studio Creator offering and the Sun Java System Application Server.
DataDirect Technologies' JDBC components will enhance Sun's data connectivity
capabilities in both development and deployment environments. The inclusion of
DataDirect Connect for JDBC in the Sun Java Enterprise System provides
additional functionality, performance and database independence while
simplifying and accelerating application design and development for Java
developers.
A Sun partner since the creation of the JDBC technology standard in 1997,
DataDirect Technologies can offer one of the most advanced Java 2 Platform,
Enterprise Edition (J2EE) certified drivers supporting the JDBC application
programming interface.
Sun has plans to incorporate DataDirect Technologies' suite of JDBC drivers
within its Java Studio Creator product offering, which aims to bring the
ease-of-development of Visual Basic to Java developers. Developers using Java
Studio Creator will have all of the JDBC drivers they need to quickly develop
and deploy data driven Java applications. By including the industry's premier
suite of JDBC drivers in Java Studio Creator, Sun is demonstrating its
commitment to simplifying and accelerating application development for the
Java platform.
Sun also plans to incorporate DataDirect Technologies' JDBC drivers into its
Java System Application Server line, a high-performance platform based on J2EE
1.4 technology for developing Web applications and Web services. In addition,
Sun and DataDirect Technologies are working together to evaluate other areas
within Sun's business that could benefit from implementing DataDirect Connect
for JDBC.
"As a long-standing technology partner of DataDirect Technologies, we have
watched the company not only base its products on industry standards, but help
define the standards on which its data connectivity components are built,"
said Jeff Jackson, vice president of engineering for the Java System
Application Server at Sun Microsystems. "The quality and performance of
DataDirect Technologies' suite of JDBC drivers are a critical addition to the
Sun Java System Application Server family."
DataDirect Connect for JDBC is the most widely deployed suite of third-party
JDBC drivers on the market. Used by thousands of Java developers worldwide,
DataDirect Technologies' JDBC drivers offer Java developers the most flexible
and feature-rich data connectivity available, accelerating the development of
fast, scalable and database-independent applications.
"Since the advent of JDBC, DataDirect Technologies has worked alongside Sun to
define the JDBC specification as a member of the JDBC Expert Group," said John
Goodson, vice president of product operations for DataDirect Technologies.
"We're very excited to bring our relationship with Sun to this new level and
to provide Sun developers and users with the fastest, most feature rich JDBC
connectivity available anywhere."
"Over the last several years, JDBC development has focused on improving the
deployment and run time experience for users," added Goodson. "In our latest
release, DataDirect Connect for JDBC 3.4, we have included significant focus
on simplifying the development experience for Java developers. The inclusion
of our drivers in Java Studio Creator as well as the Java System Application
Server gives Sun users the best of both worlds, ease of development and
unparalleled run-time performance and functionality."
DataDirect Connect for JDBC is the only Type 4 suite of drivers that provides
100 percent database-independent, standards-driven data connectivity. Passing
Sun's J2EE compatibility test suite when integrated with the J2EE 1.4 SDK,
DataDirect Technologies' JDBC components ensure high-quality technology and
support for the latest standards and database features.
