QlikTech, Intel To Drive 64-bit Business Intelligence

QlikTech and Intel have announced they are working together to deliver 64-bit performance to QlikTech's customers, through optimizing QlikView Business Intelligence for Intel Itanium 2 processor-based platforms. QlikTech will have early access to Intel technology in order to develop and deliver joint solutions that meet data-intensive enterprise processing needs. QlikTech will join Intel at the Microsoft TechEd Show in Amsterdam in June to demonstrate state of the art business intelligence powered by the Intel Itanium processor.

"With the release of Intel's Itanium processor based platform, scalability has become a powerful competitive advantage to us. We now provide our customers with both high level KPIs and detailed information in the same application. We can do this with data sets big enough for even the largest corporations of the world," said Mans Hultman, CEO of QlikTech International.

Business intelligence and other kinds of data intensive solutions depend on two factors to achieve high performance -- powerful algorithms and large quantities of memory. When Intel launched the Itanium processor family, QlikTech immediately saw the potential for the QlikView Business Intelligence solution.

"Our solution is based on a technology that stores compressed data in memory. Intel's Itanium processor based platform have enabled us to achieve much higher memory capacity which translates into maximised performance for our customers," said Jonas Nachmansson, CTO at QlikTech International.

When running a QlikView application, the data is held in the RAM memory. The more data loaded into an application, the greater the need for RAM.

The introduction of the 64-bit technology removes the 4GB addressing limitation, allowing a 64-bit application to use up to 16GB of RAM (Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition), 64GB of RAM (Windows 2003 64-bit Enterprise Edition) or even 512GB (Microsoft Windows 2003 64-bit Datacenter Edition).
