Identity Management Broadens Scope With Launch Of Epok
Epok Inc, a provider of trusted data and identity exchange solutions,
announced its official launch, offering enterprise customers and wireless
carriers an innovative software platform that delivers secure, controlled data
exchange across enterprise network trust boundaries. Epok's standards-based
Web services platform and development framework brings trusted data and
identity exchange to Service Oriented Architectures.
The identity management space is experiencing phenomenal growth due to
industry drivers such as regulatory compliance, data protection and the need
to improve intra- and inter-organizational efficiency. According to research
firm Yankee Group, sales of identity management products and services are
forecasted to reach $2.3 billion with double digit growth expected in coming
years. Epok pushes the boundaries of Identity Management by allowing
explicitly identified information and the business rules governing its usage
to be securely exchanged between cooperating entities.
"Identity management solutions have failed to address the need for controlling
data beyond network trust boundaries," said Ayman Hariri, president and CEO of
Epok. "They address the problem using non-extensible models that lack the
control structure required to support cross-domain data exchange. Only Epok
addresses the broader challenge of enabling data exchange between peers as the
foundation of a 'trusted Web.'"
Epok leverages emerging Internet standards and recent advancements in Web
services to enable wireless carriers, governments and private enterprises to
share information without relinquishing control of their data. An example of a
data sharing application built upon this infrastructure is Epok's own Dynamic
Address Book (DAB). The DAB employs Epok's Trusted Data Exchange Server as the
foundation for controlled, person-to-person data exchange and provides
automatic updates to a user's electronic address book. Essentially, the DAB
lets users create -- with permission -- a "trusted Web" of networked address
books. The DAB was built using the Epok Development Framework, a set of
software development tools designed to accelerate the creation of applications
for trusted data sharing.
"Our customers are looking for ways to reduce the complexity of integrating
controlled data exchange solutions in today's ever-changing, distributed IT
environment," said Ramsey Masri, vice president of worldwide sales at Critical
Path. "We are excited to be working closely with Epok because they offer
solutions needed in today's telecommunications, financial services and
manufacturing industries. We look forward to collaborating to deliver
best-in-class solutions that seamlessly integrate with Epok's controlled data
exchange platform."
Epok is active in the creation and implementation of open technology, working
closely with standards bodies such as the Organization for the Advancement of
Structured Information Standards (OASIS) and the Liberty Alliance.
