SYBASE, EGENERA TEAM FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE DATA CENTERS
Sybase Inc, a provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, and
Egenera Inc announced that Egenera has certified Sybase data management and
analytic engine software for its BladeFrame products, ensuring that
transaction-intensive enterprises moving Sybase applications to the Linux
operating system achieve peak data center performance and the cost savings of
a utility-based environment. The alliance is effective immediately, and is
supported by joint sales and marketing efforts by the two companies.
The BladeFrame system -- which assembles purpose-built hardware and unique
virtualization and management software in a fully integrated system --
provides an optimal platform for customers to rapidly leverage data management
capabilities from Sybase. Supported solutions include:
- Sybase ASE, the industrial-strength relational database management system,
which leverages the Egenera platform to provide increased scalability and
availability.
- Sybase Open Server, which provides multiple clients and servers access to
centralized application logic, well suited to virtualized environments.
- Sybase IQ, which delivers ad hoc query request performance up to 100 times
faster than a traditional RDBMS.
- Sybase Replication Server, which simplifies data movement and
synchronization across the enterprise.
"Database and analytic applications are among the most mission-critical
services supported by an enterprise-class data center," said Raj Nathan,
senior vice president of the Information Technology and Solutions Group for
Sybase. "The combination of Sybase data management solutions, which enable
organizations to manage and analyze information for greater business return,
and the Egenera BladeFrame platform offers joint customers reliability at a
lower total cost of ownership."
"The BladeFrame solution is ideal for transaction-heavy database applications
typical in large enterprises. By running Sybase products on the BladeFrame,
customers can optimize performance, enhance manageability and reduce costs,"
said Susan Davis, vice president of product marketing and management at
Egenera. "Our customers demand cutting-edge applications, and running Sybase
on the BladeFrame's virtualized architecture allows us to provide some of the
most flexible systems on the market today."
