GIMPS PROJECT DISCOVERS NEW LARGEST KNOWN PRIME NUMBER
- Josh Findley, a volunteer in the Mersenne.org research project called the
Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS), has discovered the largest
known prime number. He used his home PC and free softwar as part of an
international Grid of 240,000 networked computers in virtually every time
zone of the world.

- Four Washington, D.C.-area high school students will gain hands-on
training and experience with high performance computing through a unique
summer program offered by the Joint Educational Facilities (JEF) and the

VITA NUOVA SUPPLIES INFERNO GRID TO EVOTEC OAI
- Evotec OAI is using the Inferno Grid to further speed up the drug
discovery process. Around 250 of the company's PCs are connected to the Grid
so that their spare computing cycles can be put to profitable use; a further
150 computers will be added in the near future.

- The Gridbus Project at the University of Melbourne, Australia has released
the next-version of Grid simulation software, the GridSim 3.0 toolkit with
support for advanced reservation of resources.

RUTGERS LIBRARIES INSTALL INFERNO DATA GRID TO SUPPORT CETH
- CETH has a large number of original texts and translations relating to the
works of Aristotle and other early philosophers. This data is located on a
collection of Linux machines but is accessed by lecturers and researchers,
for the main part, from Windows PCs.
