GIMPS PROJECT DISCOVERS NEW LARGEST KNOWN PRIME NUMBER: Josh Findley, a volunteer in the Mersenne.org research project called the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS), has discovered the largest known prime number. He used his home PC and free softwar as part of an international Grid of 240,000 networked computers in virtually every time zone of the world.
ACCESS GRID HELPS HIGH SCHOOLERS LEARN SUPERCOMPUTING SKILLS: Four Washington, D.C.-area high school students will gain hands-on training and experience with high performance computing through a unique summer program offered by the Joint Educational Facilities (JEF) and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).
EARLY LBNL GRID EXPERIMENT, VIRTUAL FROG, STILL A WEB STAPLE: While the Virtual Frog has remained virtually unchanged over the past decade, the research behind the site has advanced by leaps and bounds, leading to Berkeley Lab's prominent role in the development of Grid technologies.

HP GIVES CIOs 'CONTROL POINT' FOR MANAGING ADAPTIVE ENTERPRISE: Combining new software, recently acquired technologies and innovative professional services, HP has created a customer-oriented portfolio focused on four core solution areas: Business Management, IT Service Management, Application Management and Infrastructure Management.
IBM READIES FOR $12B GRID MARKET BY 2007: IBM announced that seven leading application software developers, including Citrix, Cognos and Engineous Software, have completed work with IBM to ready their applications for Grid computing.
GENALYTICS, PLATFORM COMPUTING FORM JOINT PARTNERSHIP: As part of this joint agreement, business analysts can now analyze data and create more accurate predictive models in less time within a Grid computing environment.
POWERLLEL RAISES $5.6M IN FIRST ROUND OF VENTURE FUNDING: Powerllel provides solutions for accelerating the performance of applications by adapting them to run in a parallel and distributed computing environment. Powerllel reduces the development time, costs and risks associated with implementing distributed and parallel computing solutions.

VITA NUOVA SUPPLIES INFERNO GRID TO EVOTEC OAI: Evotec OAI is using the Inferno Grid to further speed up the drug discovery process. Around 250 of the company's PCs are connected to the Grid so that their spare computing cycles can be put to profitable use; a further 150 computers will be added in the near future.
Gridbus PROJECT TO RELEASE GridSim TOOLKIT 3.0: The Gridbus Project at the University of Melbourne, Australia has released the next-version of Grid simulation software, the GridSim 3.0 toolkit with support for advanced reservation of resources.
RUTGERS LIBRARIES INSTALL INFERNO DATA GRID TO SUPPORT CETH: CETH has a large number of original texts and translations relating to the works of Aristotle and other early philosophers. This data is located on a collection of Linux machines but is accessed by lecturers and researchers, for the main part, from Windows PCs.
