Wyse Enhances Linux-Based Thin Clients
Wyse Technology announced Linux thin clients with the new version 3.2 of the
Wyse-enhanced Linux operating system to meet increased demand for
server-centric computing on an open source platform. Wyse's low-cost, flexible
devices provide enhanced remote management, secure communications, and support
features for companies looking to take advantage of Linux-based solutions, the
fastest growing market for thin clients.
The Linux thin-client market improved by nearly 43 percent in year-over-year
shipments in Q4 of 2003 and grew to nearly 20 percent of the worldwide total
for the year, according to IDC, a leading technology analyst firm. Wyse thin
clients powered by Linux can be a first step towards a full Linux-based
environment for those organizations with a mandate for open source solutions
within this growing market environment.
"The latest release of Wyse's improved Linux support is just one step in a
series of Linux-based announcements planned for Wyse," said Mike DeNeffe,
senior director of the Wyse Winterm business line. "As more and more customers
embrace the benefits of the Linux platform, we will continue to extend our
innovation and strategic focus in this high growth market."
The Wyse 5000 series of Winterm thin clients are low-cost, flexible devices
that can now take advantage of remote management via Wyse's leading management
software Wyse Rapport version 4.0, as well as secure communication with
networks in remote locations via VPN capabilities. The new operating system
also supports a full-featured local Mozilla browser (Winterm 5455XL only) as
well as latest ICA and RDP protocols.
