RLX Raises Bar With Release Of Server Management Suite

RLX Technologies, a provider of on-demand compute solutions, announced the most significant release in a year of the industry's best-in-class management software, RLX Control Tower. The new product, entitled Control Tower 6G, raises the bar for blade and 1U server management and provides IT organizations with an unparalleled level of manageability through innovative policy-based automation, remote monitoring and control, and streamlined server administration and provisioning capabilities.

Control Tower 6G delivers the power of automation to identify and fix problems without manual intervention. Intelligent rules can be defined to address time-consuming tasks that might otherwise require dedicated staff and constant monitoring. The Automation Policy Manager in Control Tower 6G uses rules-based policies to implement actions in response to alerts or infrastructure monitoring. For example, an IT manager can define a policy that dynamically allocates additional server capacity to an application at peak load times.

With the Automatic Sparing Manager, Control Tower 6G adds failover capability to an infrastructure. A server or group of servers can be designated as "spares" that can be provisioned on-demand in the event of a failure. Storage connections are restored and the replacement servers take on the identity of the failed ones. Control Tower 6G also extends the management functions beyond the hardware into the solution. The Workload Inspector module monitors system and network services such as TCP, HTTP and LDAP performance.

RLX has also enhanced the previous core functions with the release of Control Tower 6G. Pre-defined workflows simplify the selection and implementation of common provisioning tasks. Storage connectivity management has been extended to include NAS, SAN and Direct-Attached storage. RAID capability has been added to the Control Tower 6G appliance to increase reliability. Control Tower 6G further simplifies its server management capabilities with enhancements to the product's web-based interface -- providing centralized anywhere, anytime management and control to system administrators.

Dan Stivers, CEO of 7ticks IT Consulting, a provider of technical services to the financial industry, uses RLX solutions to automate systems management for their server infrastructure.

"Control Tower XT gave us an effective tool for managing our server portfolio from a single console and the ability to perform a single action on a group of servers. With Control Tower 6G we'll be able to further reduce our costs by automating the actions that are taken in response to alerts or infrastructure monitoring. This will provide us with additional savings in time and costs, while enhancing our ability to provide service to our clients."

"RLX's earlier version of Control Tower set the standard for comprehensive one-button management and provisioning for blade servers, providing our customers significant savings in labor and time costs," said Doug Erwin, CEO of RLX Technologies. "With the introduction of Control Tower 6G, RLX delivers lights-out management for up to a 1000 servers from a single appliance. This sets a new standard in comprehensive server management, one that puts us significantly ahead of our competition."
