NetScout, Evident Deliver Solutions For Dist. Infrastructures

NetScout Systems, a provider of enterprise-wide performance management solutions, and Evident Software Inc, a provider of IT cost analysis solutions, announced a new agreement to jointly deliver IT demand and cost analysis solutions for large, distributed IT infrastructures. The combined solution will provide large enterprises scalable, in-depth usage and cost analysis for strategic outsourcing, utility computing and application services delivery programs.

Large global organizations in public and private sectors continue to require increased management control and accountability of IT utilization, cost and performance. By transitioning from fixed, overprovisioned resources to a demand-based model, enterprises can often achieve a lower, variable-cost infrastructure. A necessary precursor to attaining such variable-cost infrastructures is baselining IT demand and cost analysis. Detailed usage visibility and knowledge of infrastructure capacity, cost and performance provides CIOs and IT managers actionable intelligence for initial audits, reducing the cost of services via optimization and demand management as well as ongoing service level management.

Under the new agreement, NetScout and Evident have integrated their primary product lines to deliver a jointly-certified solution based upon sharing of NetScout's multi-purpose nGenius Probes, which act as common collectors and consolidators of live network and application activity and usage data. This data is used for performance management purposes and forwarded in parallel to Evident's Enterprise Edition for detailed, business- oriented IT cost analysis. As part of the agreement, Evident has also become a member of NetScout's nGenius Alliance Program.

The combined NetScout and Evident solution is implemented at several United States-based and multinational customer organizations. Among them, a worldwide financial institution is using the solution as part of its strategic outsourcing initiative centered on IT cost control. Another customer is Sony Electronics' Network Technology Group that uses the solution internally to collect and account for network usage by its global business units.

"As IS organizations embark on higher levels of IT management process maturity and serious consideration of real-time infrastructure models, they require a detailed understanding of the quality of the IT services they are providing and the cost of delivering those IT services to end-users and business unit customers," said Debra Curtis, research vice president of Gartner Inc. "Along those lines, there is clear value in choosing management products that simplify the process of gathering and presenting IT service quality and cost data as a means to optimize infrastructure investments."

"Most all of our large institutional customers are actively initiating ways to balance demand, cost and performance goals," said Bruce Sweet, vice president of business development for NetScout Systems. "NetScout provides the live data to address enterprise-wide network and application performance management, but we look to partners such as Evident to derive and deliver additional value by leveraging the consolidated activity and usage information made possible via our patent-pending CDM Technology."

"The combination of NetScout and Evident technologies provides an unmatched solution for our customers," said Rob Mignalia, Evident's vice president of business development. "By focusing on our customers' business demands at a very granular level, we provide the tools and the know-how to help customers streamline IT investment, reduce overprovisioning and evaluate strategic outsourcing agreements. That's knowledge no company should be without."
