Breaking News - Security:
Plumtree, Oblix Team To Deliver Federated ID Mgmt For Portals
Oblix, a developer of identity-based security solutions, and Plumtree Software
announced an expanded alliance including a broader reseller agreement and
continued technology integration. Plumtree will now resell the Oblix SHAREid
federated identity server and the Oblix COREid suite for Identity Management
and Web Access Control.
Plumtree and Oblix are making it simpler for customers to address the identity
management and access security issues that arise as organizations expand their
portals to include customers, partners and suppliers. Using Oblix's federated
identity management capabilities, Plumtree customers can cut the costs and
risks of managing large customer or partner portals.
"Organizations are driving increased business value from their portals by
creating secure connections with external resources and users," said Craig
Roth, vice president of technology research services for META Group. "To
realize this value, organizations need a robust identity management
infrastructure that permits delegation of administration. In this way,
organizations can keep security high without assuming additional
administrative responsibilities and costs."
Organizations that want to connect with trusted partners and customers can get
these links up and running quickly, easily and inexpensively with a Plumtree
portal and the Oblix SHAREid federated identity server. The solution provides
for:
Faster application deployment -- Organizations can use SHAREid to quickly
connect user identities to external Web-based applications, allowing seamless
user access via existing portal logons. For example, employees could easily be
linked up to externally hosted applications for booking corporate travel or
managing HR benefits, and use their same portal logon to access those
applications.
- Easier partner collaboration -- Organizations can use SHAREid to allow
customers and partners to access information and applications on their portal
without assuming responsibility for managing and updating customer and partner
user profiles. For instance, a manufacturer can give its top suppliers'
employees access to product specifications in its portal, and have the
suppliers manage all of the users according to policies set in advance by the
manufacturer.
By keeping responsibility for user identity management with the organization
that employs the users, customers can ensure that security is up- to-date
regardless of changes to individual users. SHAREid facilitates these seamless
interactions by exchanging security assertions between two parties' security
systems, in effect forwarding a security assertion that automatically logs
employees into the appropriate remote system.
"Identity management, particularly identity federation, is a top concern of
enterprises deploying large-scale portals and portals for collaboration with
trusted partners and customers," said Gordon Eubanks, CEO of Oblix. "Plumtree
and Oblix are building upon our long history and close integration and making
it even easier for customers to lay the security foundation that is critical
to truly successful e-Business."
Customers such as Smart Systems for Health Agency (SSHA), a government agency
providing IT solutions for healthcare providers in Ontario, are already
realizing the benefits of Plumtree portals with identity management powered by
Oblix. "COREid made it possible for SSHA to easily deliver a cost-effective,
customized self-registration process which will manage physician access to the
various systems available in our Plumtree-powered physician portal," said
Linda Weaver, SSHA chief technology officer. "With Plumtree and Oblix,
physicians will have simple, secure access to multiple applications delivered
through the portal for maintaining electronic health records, sharing lab
results, viewing patient records and interacting with clinical management
systems. The integration of Plumtree and Oblix technologies forms the basis of
the SSHA core products which deliver IT solutions to healthcare providers in
the province of Ontario."
"An increasing number of our customers need to share portal application data
with customers, partners and suppliers," said Plumtree's CEO John Kunze. "We
have airline customers that need to collaborate with their suppliers, and
government agencies that need to collaborate with each of the different armed
forces. Through our alliance with Oblix, we can help customers grant user
identity management to these trusted parties in order to build their own
secure worldwide Web."
