Breaking News - Storage:
CA, JBoss To Create Advanced Open Source Solution For Java
Computer Associates International Inc and JBoss Inc announced plans to create
a complete solution comprising open source software that addresses the need
for high-performance relational storage in conjunction with J2EE-based
Application Servers. The project combines JBoss Application Server, JBoss
Hibernate object-relational query service, and Ingres Enterprise Relational
Database to provide customers with a scalable and fully functional platform to
build J2EE and Java applications that include object persistence, cache,
replication, transactional integrity, and security. On Linux systems the
solution includes the open source Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS) for
enhanced performance.
Building upon the industry-leading object-relational mapping capabilities of
JBoss's Hibernate module, the companies will jointly build and support an open
source driver optimizing the integration between Hibernate and the open
sourced Ingres. As a part of this collaboration, CA has accepted an executive
seat on JBoss's ISV Customer Advisory Board. JBoss has also recognized CA with
"committer status" supporting the JBoss open source project. In addition, CA
will offer support for the complete solution, backed up with JBoss production
support and indemnification for joint customers.
"With the emergence of Ingres as the only fully functional, enterprise- ready
open source RDBMS, it is only natural to engineer its integration with the
leading open source J2EE-based Application Server," said Sam Greenblatt,
senior vice president and chief architect of CA's Linux Technology Group. "The
combination of Ingres, JBoss Application Server and JBoss Hibernate will be a
boon to CA customers and the open community as a whole."
Under the terms of the agreement, CA and JBoss will collaborate on the
certification and marketing of the combined open source solution platform. CA
will also offer Ingres customers access to JBoss's Professional Open Source
services directly as a part of their Ingres support license. This ensures that
JBoss-specific issues in production environments are handled by JBoss
developers 24-7.
"By working together, CA and JBoss are ensuring that applications built on
open source Java servers can continue to grow in terms of adaptability,
scalability, and usefulness to enterprise users," said Marc Fleury, CEO of
JBoss Inc. "We are also setting the stage for future joint development
projects that will similarly advance the interests of corporate customers
seeking to fully leverage open source technologies to gain sustainable
business advantages."
CA and JBoss expect the complete integrated technology offering to be
available by the end of the year.
