NYC Health, Mental Hygiene Dept
Selects Metatomix SMARTE
Metatomix Inc announced that the New York City Health and Mental Hygiene
Department has selected Metatomix SMARTE as its solution for integrating
laboratory data from a variety of systems within the city's Health Department.
Metatomix SMARTE will enable disparate systems such as the ElectronicClinical
Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS) and the Universal Reporting Form (URF) to
share data more easily and allow maximum interoperability among heterogeneous
systems -- without replacing or modifying any legacy systems or retraining any
staff.
Leveraging Semantic Web-based technology, service-oriented architectures
and
Grid computing, Metatomix SMARTE is the industry's first distributed ERI
platform, enabling organizations to leverage their entire data portfolios and
IT infrastructure assets through a unified view.
Requiring a common, HIPPA-compliant integration platform to enable
communication among a wide variety of existing and new external systems and
data formats, the Department faced a growing number of integration projects
without a complete solution. Metatomix SMARTE will enable the Department to
automatically aggregate and integrate its data silos across all systems,
formats and groups, and successfully meet integration needs. Metatomix SMARTE
is the ideal choice for New York City because it can quickly and easily add
new data systems into the integration scheme, it supports HL7 messaging and it
meets HIPPA compliance requirements. Rapid installation/deployment and ease-
of-use were also important factors in the selection of Metatomix SMARTE.
With Metatomix SMARTE, Department IT managers will be able to easily
aggregate
the numerous databases they manage into a single, unified, real-time,
bi-directional message and data translation hub that supports all formats,
including HL7 messaging. This will ensure that New York City's public health
information can be securely and effectively communicated across different
departments and user constituencies. Like health departments nationwide, New
York City has an ambitious list of integration initiatives. These projects
will leverage Metatomix SMARTE and enhance the IT team's ability to rapidly
meet current and upcoming integration projects.
"Metatomix is dedicated to delivering the next generation, Semantic Web-
based
technology that enables seamless and secure interoperability of information
systems, and the visibility of critical information in real-time," said Bob
Angelo, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Metatomix. "New
York City is recognized as a benchmark health department in its adoption of
innovative technologies and we are very pleased to enter this partnership with
New York City to enable the Health and Mental Hygiene Department to aggregate
its data for improved analysis and understanding."
