Server Developer, Security, Services Provider Bull Joins OSDL
The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) announced that Bull HN Information
Systems Inc has joined OSDL and will strengthen the Lab's efforts to
accelerate the growth and adoption of Linux in the enterprise by participating
in the Data Center Linux Working Group.
Bull HN Information Systems Inc, the company's global services operation, has
been at the core of Bull's server and business strategy, offering high-level
expertise in operating systems, high-end technologies, software and hardware
development.
Capitalizing on Bull HN's experience in large enterprise systems, Bull was one
of the first server companies to rely on Linux for support of mainframe
environments on open standards-based servers. Bull's solutions and Linux
combine the power of business-critical computing with the cost-effectiveness
of standards providing scalable infrastructures for the data center.
"As Linux and Open Source mature, companies and governments are rapidly
learning that this innovative technology is a powerful cost-reduction solution
that can be used in high-end enterprise computing applications," said Carl
Morelli, Bull's director of interoperability software engineering. "Bull has
been an active contributor to a number of international Open Source projects
and views its OSDL membership as an important way to amplify our investments
and bring our expertise in mainframe-class features to the development of
Linux as an enterprise platform."
Linux is seeing growing acceptance across enterprises. Market research firm
Gartner forecasts that Linux will power more than 21 percent of corporate
servers within the next three years.
"Linux is finding a home at the heart of the enterprise and we are pleased to
welcome Bull to our Data Center Linux Working Group, which today includes more
than 20 of the world's leading IT companies," said Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL.
"Bull brings us key server, mainframe and infrastructure knowledge and
expertise that will accelerate our efforts in delivering Linux solutions for
high-end enterprise applications."
