GE FINANCIAL WINS AWARD FOR USE OF GRID TECHNOLOGY
GE Financial has been recognized by one of the most important IT communities
in the southeastern United States, the Greater Richmond Technology Council,
for its use of information technology.
With more than 150 area companies from multiple industries vying for
recognition, GE Financial was presented with the prestigious IT Builders Award
for 2004. The award is presented annually to the technology organization that
delivers the best technology-enhanced business transformation solutions to
clients.
"We're especially gratified by this award because it tells us we're achieving
a level of excellence that's now measurable beyond what we've accomplished in
our own industry," said Scott McKay, GE Financial CIO and senior vice
president of operations. "Those familiar with the Greater Richmond Technology
Council understand how meaningful this award is. In a state like Virginia,
where technology companies have exploded over the last decade, it's a huge win
for all the GE Financial IT professionals -- this award belongs to them."
GE Financial's latest honor recognizes multiple technology-related service
improvements customers now benefit from. From the application of Grid
computing -- which is achieving a 10-fold improvement in cycle time for
processing complex actuarial models -- to its leadership in the
standardization of industry data, GE Financial Information Technology is
changing the state of its industry.
Grid computing, especially, holds tremendous value for the financial services
industry, and will be the focus of Gt'04 (www.gt04.com), being held May
24-26 in Philadelphia. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference
targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline
strategies and road maps for Grid deployment.
