Tarantella Intros Next Generation Of Remote Access Software

Reaffirming its commitment to secure the future of the free enterprise, Tarantella Inc introduced its Secure Global Desktop family of enterprise software products. In doing so, the industry-leading supplier of remote access software ushered in a new era of secure application and information access for its growing worldwide customer base.

Tarantella's Secure Global Desktop is the only secure remote access product family that meets all of the needs of today's agile enterprise, from Microsoft-only infrastructures to heterogeneous environments that include Linux, UNIX, IBM 3xxx, AS400 in addition to Microsoft. With native support for standards such as Java, LDAP, SSL/SSH, X11 and RDP, the Secure Global Desktop is the platform of choice for supporting secure access to the widest range of applications from the largest assortment of devices.

"This new product family delivers unprecedented value to our customers," commented Steve Bannerman, Tarantella's chief marketing officer. "They no longer have to purchase separate products for their Microsoft and Linux environments. From intranet-based thin clients to PC users spread throughout remote offices, to mobile professionals accessing information via PDAs, the Secure Global Desktop family of products offers the industry-leading security and flexibility our customers demand without the immense complexity and exorbitant cost of other solutions."

The two members of the Secure Global Desktop Family, Enterprise Edition and Terminal Services Edition, project Tarantella's extensive experience in the development of secure remote access software to a new level of power and ease of use, expediting the flow of real-time information across enterprise-scale operations.

Targeted to the Microsoft-centric enterprise, the Secure Global Desktop, Terminal Services Edition (TSE) is the ultimate companion to Windows Terminal Services in Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. TSE offers Windows Terminal Services users enhanced security for Internet-based application access, load balancing for managing larger numbers of users and servers, and policy-based application management services to ensure appropriate access at the user level. In addition, TSE's native support for the RDP protocol to access applications allows customers to preserve their investment in Microsoft IT infrastructure.

Aimed toward the heterogeneous enterprise with the highest security and scalability requirements, the Secure Global Desktop, Enterprise Edition (EE) is the only integrated application management and access solution to span an unprecedented range of server-based applications including Microsoft Windows, Linux, UNIX, Mainframe or Midrange systems. Its three-tiered design is engineered to work around open standards, stringent security and encryption requirements, and optimize network performance, using any combination of Internet, intranet or extranet pathways. EE is the ideal platform to enable cost-effective enterprise application migrations and ensure business continuance in disaster scenarios.
