SupportSoft Eases IT Infrastructure Migrations
SupportSoft Inc, a leading provider of Real-Time Service Management (RTSM)
software, announced the results of a survey which showed that 68 percent of IT
professionals are anxious when it comes to enterprise IT change. Furthermore,
5 percent of those surveyed said that they update their resume when
contemplating a major IT change, suggesting that they anticipate a poor
outcome.
The survey asked a wide cross-section of IT professionals anticipating a major
IT change impacting their company about their level of anxiety. It's not
surprising that two-thirds felt anxious -- in 2003 the number of software
vulnerabilities requiring patches was estimated at 80 per week, up from 5 per
week in 1998. To make matters worse, Gartner predicts that cyber attacks that
exploit vulnerabilities where a patch has been available for less than 30 days
will increase from 15 percent of total cyber attacks in 2003 to 30 percent in
2006, making Real-Time Service Management solutions even more essential when
considering how to mitigate the negative impact caused by IT change.
And software patches are but one of a myriad of IT change issues that
enterprises face on an ongoing basis. Because of this, the top priority for
many IT professionals today is to better manage IT change to ensure a smooth
transition to both new technology and the business processes it may impact.
The SupportSoft Real-Time Service Management software platform provides
solutions which can enable preemptive, proactive and just-in-time resolution
of technology-related problems, helping ensure that IT change such as an
application or OS migration doesn't have to be a time-consuming, high-risk
process.
"SupportSoft Real-Time Service Management solutions can take the anxiety out
of IT change by addressing potential problems through automated detection and
prevention of issues at the end points of the computer network before
end-users are negatively impacted," said Chris Grejtak, senior vice president
of products and marketing for SupportSoft. "By helping IT organizations avoid
change-related problems, the company can avoid unnecessary and expensive
internal support calls or desk side visits later."
One migration being made by more and more enterprises is from existing
infrastructures to Grid infrastructures. Gt'04 -- being held May 24-26 in
Philadelphia -- will give those looking to make the jump to Grid all the
information necessary to do so. Interested parties can learn more about the
show at www.gt04.com.
